It's that time of year again! All those crazy writers who have pledged to write a novel in 30 days, are away to the races as yet another NaNoWriMo begins.

It was suggested that we begin a Hatrack Support Group for those dedicated souls who have taken the plunge this year, and several people have volunteered to participate even if they aren't doing NaNo.

Instead of searching for those names in other NaNo threads, it would be helpful if NaNo participants could look at a short list of volunteers.

So...

If you are willing to be a buddy, please post the following information:

1. What type of support you want to offer. Asking for writing progress reports...Acting as a sounding board for ideas...Sending out encouragement e-mails...partial critiques...etc.

2. What sort of commitment you want to make. As needed...Partner for the month...Weekly check-in...etc.

3. What sort of writing you enjoy, favourite authors, etc. so participants can find good matches.

If you are participating in NaNoWriMo, you can e-mail these volunteers for help as you need it or want it.

Good Luck!!

Since I had volunteered in Autumnmuse's thread I'll get the ball rolling here .

I'm more than willing to clutter your in-box every few days with a request for a word count update. If you need to vent about a plot problem or whatever, I'm on-line all day and get notifiers for all new e-mails (from 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time ~ Alberta, Northwest Territories, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico; and parts of Arizona, Nebraska, Kansas, North and South Dakota).

I would prefer to offer specific help as needed, but if someone wants a dedicated buddy, I might be able to help.

I enjoy action/adventure stories, but try to read a bit of everything (sometimes that is more of a challenge than I like, but I'm working on it ). Most of my favourite authors are dead and include Shakespeare, Alexandre Dumas, James Fenimore Cooper and others from the 19th Century. Modern lit, I like some John Grisham, and can't think of anyone else off the top of my (go figure!).

Again, good luck to all and feel free to e-mail me.

Okies! I also offered(and renew my offer of) my services as personal cheering squad, idea bouncer off-er, crit'er, if someone really wants it (But I kind of think that's counterproductive to the exercise, isn't it? Write now and worry about crit'ing and revising later!), help generate ideas as necessary, and bug as much or as little as is desired.

I am on and off the 'net all day, so am pretty easy to get ahold of on short notice. I am available on a daily basis if need be, or as frequently as one desires that li'l voice to be present. I would enjoy being a dedicated buddy, as that will probably give me as close an experience of NaNoWriMo as is possible without going through it personally. Hopefully that will give me an idea if this is something I'll want to try for next year or not.

I prefer fantasy generally, or light sci-fi. Favourite authors include, but not limited to, McCaffrey (earlier preferred), Zelazny, OSC. I am, however, open to many genres.

I also enjoy gothic, though have never gotten into straight horror, or perhaps "Weird Tales" type of stuff.

Email if interested!

Oh, and... happy writing!!

Susan

shadowynd (something that's been on my mind for a while): Have you ever read 1984? Animal Farm?

Both are satire. Both leave you with the impression that the author does not support socialism and communism. Is that conclusion inappropriate?

No, because the works are satire.

And that's how I viewed your piece on the dog. ^.^

I'm game for just about whatever people need...an ear for complaints, daily reminders to get writing, updated word counts, or idea boards. I don't think idea bouncing is counterproductive to the exercise, at least not entirely. You don't want to stress about it too much, but at some point if you're just stuck and can't write another word without unwravelling some future plot, go ahead and talk to me. My only problem is that the critical fourth (and last) week of November (20-28) I will be in London and will almost certainly not check my e-mail. (Technically, the internet does stretch that far, but I'm gonna be on vacation so nyeh.) But for those of you who are trying to get pumped up to get this done early just e-mail me with anything. If I get overloaded, I'll just say no. (I'm actually not afraid to do that, some weirdos are.)

I'll help someone to the best of my (limited) ability. Having never participated in NaNoWriMo, I'm not sure what all someone might need, but I'm game to help in any way that I can. I generally check in on a daily basis, and often several times a day.

My interests are broad, but I particularly enjoy sci-fi (OSC, Zahn, and Heinlein come to mind as favorites), and some fantasy (some of Tolkien, Feist, and even C.S. Lewis); I've read in most genres, excluding horror and romance.

If I can help, let me know.

I'm game for any and all buddies. With every else that is pulling on my time (not the least of which is the USAF), I can't offer much in the way of crit'ing work, but will certainly help as sounding board or motivator.

I know that I need motivation... My Muse-- bless her heart-- asn't been singing as loudly to me lately as she once did. So I'm struggling and already behind on word quota.

I read fantasy/horror and not surprisingly, that's what I write. My NANO is along the lines of a fantasy epic. Loads of battles, a quest, fantastical creatures, and a MC who is seeking redemption as much as anything else.

Email me or send a PM. I'm Siligurl on NANO as well.

Sili

I could use a friendly cheer after having to catch up on other stuff yesterday and writing almost nothing. I'm not looking for critique (sort of not the point of NaNo!), just a helpful "Hi" or something.

I don't really know. Just a bit nervous that I missed a day after going so strong. Also spent a lot of time yesterday trying to find a good map geneator - did find stuff and print, but not really what I needed most - a world generator, with features, that I can divide into political units but will still show physical geography.

Augh - head hurting - must take ibuprofen!

Check your email, Lee, your spot of cheer is on its way!
