I’m going to buy a new thesaurus and dictionary with a Christmas gift card. Any recommendations? I’d really like to hear from those of you who have tried multiple publishers/editions and have settled on a favorite.

Thanks!

Brian

The days I settle for the on-line ones... but if I were to buy one, I would go for the uber-expensive unabridged Oxford English Dictionary -- it's like tons of books. I think even it's partially on-line for a fee...

One of the words you're looking for might be _Word Finder_. If it's still available. It gives you words that might go with one you already have, as in, you look up "fruit" and it gives you luscious, ripe, delicious, mellow, rotten, etc.

Bartlett's Roget's thes.

Excellent, excellent one.

There's also a program you can download called WordWeb. It's pretty good too.

I like Miriam-Webster online www.m-w.com. If I were going to purchase a hardcopy I'd go with the same.

JOHN!

Thanks, John. One of the reasons I'm buying hardcopy versions is that I'm going to try writing in long hand for a while - far away from my PC. Lately I've been wasting way too much of my precious BIC time surfing. It's terrible because I spend all day thinking about what I'm going to write, then when I'm actually doing it I can't overcome the temptation to waste time surfing or gaming...

As in:

"What kind of fool do you take me for?"

"The question, although interesting, is not strictly germane."
