Hey does anyone have a billy goats gruff story you have done a take on?

I'd love to have one for the current issue Im working on for fantasy world. Ill pay for it.

I am looking for either really funny or really scary.

If I remember wasn't there a Billy Goats gruff challenge on this site?

I know at least one got published. Check with djdvdakota or Mary Robinette. I'm STILL working on mine.

Are you talking about this one, mike?

Under the Bridge

I have one that's just about finished. Don't know if it's funny enough, but I'll polish it up and send it to you if you like, JBS. How soon do you need it?

I don't think that's it.

You have to remember that although a number of us responded to that challenge and wrote something, that there was no requirement to keep a troll involved. HSO, for example wrote a cool and quirky rewrite that involved spiders, for example. Mine had a troll, but it was such a pitiful excuse for a story that I'm still embarassed by it. Although it DID serve as the origin of the Bridgetown milieu that I'm getting a bit of mileage out of.

Anyway, Dakota ought to remember.

Since it's Superbowl Sunday, it would be fun to write one in which an entire football team encounters the troll, no? Why don't we take a stab at that and submit it? Maybe a team on the bus coming back from winning the Superbowl has a breakdown, and encounters the troll under the bridge.

Has possibilities.

Depends on who wins, though.

I've got a troll-under-the-bridge story, but I don't think it's scary; more of a love story, actually. I'd be happy to send it to you if you'd like, but it sounds like it's not what you're looking for.

JBSkaggs: yeah, I've got one. It's funny... at least I think it is. If you're interested in a story about a jealous spider in London, then let me know. 2200 words.

I was just about to start shopping this around, too...

I withdraw my offer. HSO's is far funnier than mine.

You will do no such thing, Keeley... that's not how this works.

I demand you reinstate your offer!

EDIT: Politely demand that is... you know, respectfully and stuff...

Keely, darnit!

Submit or die!

Hmmm. That kinda didn't come out right. Oh well, you know what I mean.

Oh, yes, I do, mike. You want the competition to disappear.

I still say mine isn't nearly as funny as HSO's, but if it's a matter of life or death (mine) I'll withdraw my withdrawal.

I love you guys.

Okay send them on. The sooner I can get the story the better we are in the final stages of layout and art design. I rec'd a couple of hundred stories so far and only three troll stories.

Anyway send the Billy goat gruff stuff on to me. Or billy goat spiders

Ah, yes. History!

The Gruff Challenge was the first Rewrite challenge--and the one that garnered the most participation. We had about a dozen stories submitted with that one. I particularly remember maryrobinette's and HSO's and I can't remember who wrote the Gruff Bluff (Robyn_Hood?).

And, yes, one sale that I know of out of that group.
The really weird thing has been that there have been two or three goat/troll stories show up on Hatrack SINCE the challenge--with no relation whatsoever TO the challenge.

Good luck finding your goat story, JB.

Yes, Gruff Bluff was mine, but I've barely worked on it since the challenge and have barely even thought about markets for it.

Good luck to the others.

I can send mine if you like (goats and trolls), let me clean on it this afternoon and I'll try to get it out this evening. Don't know if it's all that funny though.
