John Joseph Adams, the slush reader/assistant editor at Fantasy and Science Fiction (F&SF) is doing an interview series on his blog about slush readers and writers who've recently escaped the slush pile. It's interesting reading and fairly insightful.

Thanks for the link. It sure makes for interesting reading (a bit frightening, though, when you realise how many stories from the slush are actually bought, at Scifi, for instance...).

The "slush pile" is the term for unsolicited manuscripts. Slush readers are those assigned to read the slush pile and select manuscripts worthy of the editor's time.

Interesting info. Thanks for the link, Mary! I didn't read all of each interview, but I made a point of reading everyone's comment about what is overdone as a story idea in SF/Fantasy. I'm always glad when the list does not include the major plot threads from my WIP.
