quote:
miracle
Main Entry: mir·a·cle
Pronunciation: 'mir-i-k&l
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Old French, from Late Latin miraculum, from Latin, a wonder, marvel, from mirari to wonder at
1 : an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs
2 : an extremely outstanding or unusual event, thing, or accomplishment
3 Christian Science : a divinely natural phenomenon experienced humanly as the fulfillment of spiritual law

Thursday, a little miracle came into the world. His name is Drake Alexander. He's a small fry, weighing in at 6 lbs 6 ounces, 19" long, but he's healthy and beautiful.

Magic is harder to define, especially in the real world, but Thursday I came to the conclusion that I had discovered real magic and figured out what distinguished it from a miracle. Magic thwarts the will of God. Science, supernatural powers, whatever....but I can assure you that the miracle of childbirth is the child. The magic is called an epidural. Take that, Genesis, with your childbirths being in pain.

So I'm feeling pretty good. Just thought I'd share the news and philosophize a bit because that's what you do when you do instead of sleeping.

Congratulations. Oh, is your life going to change (for the better.) We have a little six-week old miracle, but he's a grandchild. So he's twice as much fun and half as much work.

Congratulations indeed!

I have 4 children myself with the oldest recently married.

Some say your life of fun has come to an ending with children. Well, I believe that attitude is everything in this life, and with the right attitude, there is no greater fun and joy than being with your family and children.

Conga-rats from Japan!

BTW, I'd say that god had little to do with it! Take more credit!

Yes, this is my first. It's hard to take care of a baby. I'm so glad my husband saved up his vacation and is taking two weeks off to help me right now. He's so good with it, though, that I'm still worried about what will happen when he goes back to work. He's the oldest of six kids. For my part, the closest I've gotten to babies is passing them in car seats at the grocery store. I can't say there's anything that strikes me as particularly surprising about my first four days as a mom. I think I knew wha to expect, but knowing what to expect and experiencing it are somehow completely different.

Congratulations, Christine. All the best in this new adventure, may it be fodder for many a great story.

Herein lies the challenges of parenthood. Nothing anyone tells you could ever prepare you for the reality. It's a roller coaster adventure, each and every day, as the pendulum swings between terror and overwhelming, giddy joy. A good sense of humor and flexibility will be your saving graces!

The advantage is that babies are pretty forgiving of your initial lack of experience. They are easy to please. Keep them dry, fed, well-rested, and give them lots of cuddling. The rest is optional.

Congratulations, Christine. Hope you learn to breastfeed and type at the same time soon. A "boppy" pillow is very helpful.

Cute and cuddly now like mogwai, but at about 14 they metamorphose...

Don't get them wet or feed them after midnight.

(Hope I am not the only one old enough to remember that movie)
