Note from Kathleen:

Sorry. I've tried to fix the link and some kind of glitch has deleted it on me.

[This message has been edited by Kathleen Dalton Woodbury (edited January 13, 2006).]

No worries I was just coming to fix it and apologize. Just general stres and what not but doesn't excuse my rudeness.

You're right Survior.

Best

Matt

O.K, lost interest halfway through that. dont know why we bother with weapons because weapons have only one purpose, mostly, TO KILL! I do not see why we continue to fight amongst ourselves. animals, maybe, but OTHER HUMANS? why cant we just get along, or at least make due. we are all the same species, in fact, if you say that Black people are a different species, then consider this: white people came from Black people, not the other way around.

heres the tin with my two cents in it (I have enough for everyone.)

no one can say for sure what color skin early homo sapiens had. We assume the skin color based on the geographic trail and we assume people who lived there x-thousand years ago had the same skin colors as the people who live there today.

Last I checked very few laser weapons in development today are actually designed for targetting and killing people.

The one I know the most about is a laser system mounted on a jumbo-jet for the purpose of shooting down missles. In my mind, that's a good thing.

Why can't we all just get along? Well for one, there are very few places in the world where there are enough resources to support the population. Someone's gonna not get enough and its gonna be the one with the smallest gun, dullest sword, fewer friends etc...

Another reason? Religion. There are an awful lot of religions out there that think they are right and everyone else is wrong.

And just as icing on the cake, people are by nature insecure and in an effort to allay their fears they fight quickly when they feel threatened. This is a survival trait and is a big reason why we are at the top of the food chain. Very useful trait for climbing the food chain, not so great once we got there.

"Then comes the recriminations with the slamming doors and the 'It's not you it's me' and the 'It's not me it's you' but in Universal Man's experience, it is always you."

And please, can't we all learn to use the "url=[desired link]" tags?
There's a link with this information right next to the reply box.

And let's not debate whether killing humans is a good idea

We could melt the icecaps.
That would be cool.
Could we use the tech to keep us warm in the antarctic.

Could we have a geo-stationary satellite mounted with this sort of tech keeping an antarctic base warm? Grow sweet potatoes and corn. Or would the people all fry?

heh heh, Ive gone and amused myself.

I only posted this out of my own interest in "Sci-Fact" I also thought some people might desire for such information for story ideas.

best

Matt

Don't worry yourself Matt, some of us do find these stories interesting for the reason you intended. That wouldn't be political/social/moral debate either.

Our security consultants often recommend green lasers as a dissuasive method. It seems that the correct color of lased light, at a non-lethal intensity, will induce nausea.

That's all well and good, Matt Lust, but you need to edit your post so people can
read the thread. Put long url's inside a ubb formated hyperlink so they don't mess up
the thread display.

Hmm

Survivor why did you feel the need to yell at me?

Thanks

Note: Yes I do offense.

Matt, when you posted the whole URL in the topic, there wasn't room for it on the screen, and that causes problems for some web browsers.

As Survivor pointed out, there is a way to provide a link without posting the URL. If you select the "UBB Code is ON" link to the left of the space where you type your post for a topic, you will go to a page that shows you how to do fancy things like insert links into a post.

All you do is put

[url=

in front of the URL and

]link[/url]

at the end of the URL (but without spaces or returns), and your post will be much easier to read.

KDW

I know what i did wrong. I understood it as soon as survivor pointed it out.

What i have a problem is his bolding my name just to be an @$$ and other sorts of comic strip profanity

Edit: It maybe I'm older than I thought but in my "day" caps and or bolding meant yelling in text based communication.

In my day bold letters were used to draw attention. Placing your name in bold simply had the effect of making sure that you knew he was talking to you and didn't just glaze over the post because you didn't see key words to the part of the thread that was important to you.

It's very clear that your reaction is not an indicator of your advanced calendar age.

If this had been my post, I probably would have edited the original post down to clean up that URL mistake.

Matt, I felt the need to yell at you because you ignored my advice the first time, and yelling is an effective method for calling attention to oneself.

See, if you had understood it as soon as I pointed it out, you would have corrected it then, and not waited for me to yell at you. Or rather, if you did understand it when I first pointed it out, and simply decided to wait till I yelled at you to do anything about it, and then complained about my yelling...well, I won't speculate as to which of us would qualify as an @$$ in that circumstance. Other than to say it comes out pretty even to me.

Or rather, I yelled to be heard. That's the only reason I ever yell.

And here I thought all the really fun histrionics would be over the militarization of space and how evil it is for the white man to go on finding new ways of killing oppressed minorities whilst exploiting and degrading pristine nature...but we only got one post in that vein.

For the record, I read the story just before I visited Hatrack that day, and found it interesting. I just felt that the problem with the forum display could be cramping the discussion. But it seems like my calling attention to that problem ended up derailing things much more completely. Why does the world hate me?

Posted by Matt Lust (Member # 3031) on :

I don't hate you I just hate me for letting something get under my skin that I should have been willing to fix.

Oh and by the way

Lasers on their head pew! pew!

I forget why I never read the original link. I think my browser at work wasn't able to open it. But my browser at work has problems with a lot of stuff. It's always saying it's missing a plugin for something.

Oh...I never saw it. I mean, I've seen parts of it, probably most of it, in fragments. But it's a pretty good bet I never saw the particular part you quoted.
