Hi,

Anybody have good word macros that'll convert my current MS to a properly formatted one?

While I type I use CTRL + I for italics and whatnot, but for the printed, sending out copy, you need to use the _underscore_ format.

I don't want to go back and change every italics, so a macro would be perfect.

Thanks,
Ronnie

Word allows you to search for formatting - I'd record my own macro that does a search and replace.

You don't even need a macro. Here are the basic steps in Word 2003. Earlier versions (if I remember right) are similar.

On the Edit menu, click Find.

In the "Find what" and "Replace with" text boxes, delete any text that may be there. Click inside the "find what" text box, so the cursor remains there.

If you don't see the Format button, click the More button.

Click the Format button (bottom of the dialog box), and then select the formats you want to get rid of. In other words:

* Click "Format"
* Select "font"
* A dialogue box (new little mini-window) appears.
* Select "Italic".
* Click "OK"
* You're back to the Find/Replace dialog box.

Click inside the "replace with" text box, so the cursor remains there.

Click the Format button again, this time selecting the format you want to change to. In other words:

* Click "Format"
* Select "font"
* Select "regular" (to get rid of the italics)
* Choose the thin line in the "Underline Style" combo box.
* Click "OK".
* You're back to the Find/Replace dialog box.

Click the "Replace All" button.

That should do the trick. To make your find/replace work normally again, click in the Find What text box and click "No formatting" (bottom right button). Then click in the "Replace with" box and click the "No formatting" button.

Like I said, this is for Word 2003, but I remember having to do similar things in earlier versions.

Hope this helps,
Oliver

Oliver you are BRILLIANT!

I am pretty good with word but I did not know that format could be changed with replace. You rock, thanks.

O_O I had no idea you could do that.

I've been dreading having to go through my entire manuscript and change every italics to underlined.

Thanks, Oliver.

Great to know that I'm not the only "Word loser" out there :P.

Well, I wouldn't say word loser.

I consider myself fairly "Word savvy", but obviously, I don't know everything.

Still, good to know.
