I'm trying to invent a name for a company that does human cloning in a near-future set story. I have some ideas, but none are really working for me yet. Anyone care to play?

Here are my ideas:

Genteal
Duplicopy
Clonegen
DoubleDouble
ClonesRUs
DNAtwice

Some words that relate that I was using to brainstorm with:
Same
Duplicate
Copy
Genetic
DNA
Double
Clone

Depending on how serious your story is, you could always take the name of a current copying chain or a combination of that with a well known genetics firm.

Kinko's or such. Maybe combine it with a haberdashery or gentleman's clothier.

Burlington Copy Factory or Kinko's Big & Tall :-)

RNAbling
DNAbling

If this is something that has become commercially viable, it wouldn't be unreasonable to see Walmart looking into it.

This has no relation to any of your words or ideas, but in a story I wrote a long time ago I had a company that did cloning. I called it Percifere (not exactly sure of the pronunciation) Genetics. It's from the Latin for 'to make completely'. Its just a thought of how you can make a name for your company.

Hope this helps you.

I like Genteal, Duplicopy and Clonegen.

IMHO - they all sound a little redundant. Duplicopy?

However, I can't really think of anything better:

You2 Inc.

CloneMart

ClonesWest

Clones Ltd.

Doppleganers Inc.

Nu You / New U/ New You

Nextgen

Generetics

Hey IB...it's cloning the redundancy is somewhat intentional. LOL

But meanwhile, thanks - the ideas are great. DNAbling is hilarious, as is Kinko's Big and Tall (or some play on copy companies and mass-merchandisers, that's a great lead.)

Thanks!! Keep 'em coming.

How about

NextGen (or NxtGen)

or

Multiplicity, Inc. (the name of that cloning movie)

How about

Second Chances
Replaceable You
Multiplicity (I know, it was a movie, so probably not)
Ultimate Remake (Uh, yeah...)
Part Two
Continuations

Edited to make note of my cloned... Uh, I mean duplicate entry for Multiplicity. It was Verloren's idea first!

Um.... lemme burn some mental grease a little.

Duality Biogenics Corp.

Grant-Sattler Genetics Ltd.

BioFab Inc.

Maybe try just generating a generic sounding company name, make them a large multinational with their fingers in many industries, one of which is cloning, a la the Rosen Corporation in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.

Maybe combine some you already have

DupliGen ?

Tired of defective clones? Try DupliGen. More clone, less drone. Remember, the next one's on you.

You should probably consider the name for the company and for the brand/product.

A lot would depend upon the reason for cloning. Some purposes would warrant euphemism, some reasons would try to usurp the credit for life from God, and others would be very utilitarian in nature.

Care to give us a hint of the purpose of the cloning?

ciao,
Mark

U-Clone-2?

Duplicity. It has a wonderful double-meaning.

There was an actual cloning services (for pets, not people) that called themselves Genetic Savings and Clone. I think they've gone out of buisness.

I also like Clonegen-it brings to mind genetics and again and cloning. You could also switch the word around and use Genaclone.

Do you want something pun-ish or serious or in-between?

Try looking at the derivation of the word. ( Greek klon, twig, slip, < klan, break ) See if you can find something in another language that means something similar.

(I have got to get me a new dictionary. The definition of "clone" has nothing at all to do with the definition as we know it today.)

I am definitely aiming more for funny/pun/double entendre than serious.

Purpose of cloning, good question. Story premise is a salesman convinces a hollywood starlet to clone herself, as a way to make cloning more popular - a marketing gimmick, basically.

if you clone clowns, you get Hysterical Hysteresis!

If you go to a clown cloning clinic you have a tied-up tongue...

if you go to a cow cloning clinic, you get multiple meat.

if you went to a foot-cloning clinic, you'd have multiple feet. X marks the pedwalk.

hey, i've got a great name for a place that is promoting cloning to the start-infiniME

Posted by KayTi (Member # 5137) on :

Oooh - deb, that's good!

And I'm groaning at the cloned clown talk. What if the cloned clowns were all wearing cleats and clapping? Clapping cleated cloned clowns?

What about... Resurrected, or Lazurus INC. Those are more "reborn" names but could be looked at as copies I suppose.

If they are getting a star to do it first and it is really going to be for the rich and famous what about something like:
Stars Cloning
Cloning of the Rich and Famous
Fabulous Clones
Now you will need two Ferrari

But honestly I would try for something that you can shorten in to a word like.
C.L.O.N.E.S. (Clone Liberal Others New Empire Scary) I know that makes no sense, Monday mornings tend to shut my creative side off.

You could also take a page from Vonnegut and create a word like GATTACCA...

I can't tell you where, but I'm sure I've seen Genteal, Clonegen and ClonesRus.

as a non-sequiter entry how about Walrus Inc. (they were a little cloning outfit run out of a garage in Ohio, but they were devoured by a multi-national corporation that first was a blubber distributor.)

Of course the name I like for any comapany is Path A Tech.
