Did You Write? 07-30-07

I am going to have to start to use these notes to shame myself into writing pretty soon. Other than my story ideas, I have not written. I am up to date on my story ideas today, and just have tomorrow to finish the month.

I can claim excuse for one day only. the condo commandos decided to make some money by having vehicles with outdated tags towed. My truck was one of them. Luckily, I had the cash to get it immediately, and have more than enough time padded into my mornings when I go to work to open the office so I was able to get to work as someone else was opening the gates so I was still early. After work I went to the tag agency and spent an hour getting a new tag. I was able to claim that I never got the tag, so they gave me a new one without fee.
Beyond that, I would have to be imaginative to come up with a reason for not writing. I am to lazy today to invent a list.

So the question fall to you.
Have you written?

i wrote the cover letter for the asteroid story and dropped it in the mail to ANALOGTODAY! I'm singing the praises of Stanley Schmidt in hopes my story will fall upon kindly eyes. Next is the Prince Midas story (with just a few changes) and by this weekend I will have inquisition ready to go out the door.

At which time I will have to start writing some fresh material. Sigh. A writer's work is never done.

I'm proud of my output this week. First time I've been able to say that since last fall.

I have:

- polished and submitted three stories that have been collecting dust for two years. One of which already got a rewrite request on my first ever sub to F&SF, and I've done so and sent it back.

- begun a new story that I really like, and intend to complete.

I'm also in the middle of polishing another oldie-but-a-goodie from my harddrive, and pondering markets for it.

I did my usual novel writing, but my pace changed slightly. First I was too busy Wednesday to write at all...then doubled up at a thousand words on Thursday...then was really-really sick on Friday, which lingered till more-or-less right now...so I doubled up again on Saturday...then couldn't get to it again on Sunday...but Monday was so busy I only had time for my usual five hundred words.

I'm trying for a hundred thousand total on my novel by August 10th---that being the first anniversary of my starting it. It's nowheres near the end of it, though.

Yes, I wrote. For me, I actually wrote quite a bit (for anyone calling themselves a writer, I wrote a shamefully small amount). Still, my output is improving on an almost daily basis as I work hard at shedding the impenetrability of "scholarly" historical prose (historians never use one word if twenty others will work, bonus points if at least half of those are in Greek or Latin). I am getting a fair bit of writing related work done in developing my ideas (while driving, walking, eating, sleeping, etc).

ACCK! you mean there's some other way to do it? Add: while brushing my teeth, waiting in the car while the kids are in the dollar store, sitting in the doctor's office, covertly during meetings at work, etc. anybody else care to chime in?

Yes, I wrote ... and rewrote ...

I very carefully do not take copies of my writing to work. My Hatrack River password is nowhere near a work computer. I want to retire, not get fired. That doesn't stop me from thinking about stories, though.

Of course, Debhoag. There are those, or so I am told, who have time to sit and think for minutes on end.

I wrote just a small page, just for fun, of an idea that came to my head; but it was good! I was pleased at the very small amount of errors there were in the rough draft. I know it needs work but DANG! There were a few spelling/punct. errors and only two fragments written in the "heat of the moment" so to speak. I think I am out of my low point!

I'll admit that I think of my books everywhere I go. I have a notebook and jot down ideas when ever they strike me. Right now I am restructureing the plots in books #2-4 so they flow better. Lots of work but worth it for a smoother flowing story.

So in answer... Yes I did write; just a page but what a great page it was...... I'll post the first 13 when it is ready....

I wrote a first chapter of a new story yesterday. It was a bit florid. Maybe I'll workshop it in the 30 minutes I have before going home.

I did write!!! I have an unfinished story and didn't know where to go with it, so I worked on editing and revising it. That was last night and today I'm going to finish the first edit.

Four pages of Demon Child plus edited 100 pages of the Book of Overthrowing Sebau plus worked on a script for a fiction podcast (The Fireside Podcast at http://www.firesidepodcast.com). The script was trash, so I'm redoing it today.
