Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB both rate films and can give you a pretty good idea of the quality of any given film. They aren't going to get your views spot on, but they give you a nice feel for what most everybody thinks of any given film. Is there a resource like that for fiction books?

Hm... If you're talking about user ratings, I think amazon.com has that pretty well covered. There's also librarything.com, which hasn't really taken off yet, but when it does, I think it might be interesting.
