Elizabeth Moon in her livejournal did a couple of very interesting (to me) articles on this subject. She was on the recent SFWA committee on copyrights.

Actually her livejournal is frequently intersting but I particularly found this informative so I wanted to share.

Edit: Blech left off the link. lol

Thanks for the link, JeanneT. Some good things to think about.

I never never never share someone else's story with someone else without prior permission. I don't even _discuss_ someone else's unpublished stories. I always thought that goes without saying, but I guess you can never be too sure.

I've sort of thought about this, esp. with the Web site critters.org. I love that site, and send my short stories through, but every once in a while the hair will go up on my neck--I really have no idea who among the hundreds that subscribe to that sight, will read my stories. Another aspiring writer may very well take it (okay, assuming my stuff is good enough!).

At least on Hatrack I have a relationship with the folks behind the handles, and a good record of whom I sent it to, and when.
