Okay, I'd like to keep this topic from becoming a flame war, so please, if you feel the need to be negative do it elsewhere. Thanks.

EP Kaplan: Good luck with your submission!

I also have been wanting to submit for about four years. I was so excited to see it was going to be in SoCal this year! I shut my eyes and submitted. It's at the same time as SCBWI (LA), so I've left it in the hands of Fate to see which one I'll be going to this year. It's really no contest, though, for where I want to go more.

Thanks for all those links KDW! And you too, Jamie. Lots of good stuff to check out.

Has anyone else here submitted?

I'm thinking about it. But I'm a little intimidated, also I'm not sure if I can afford it. How much are California hotels these days, $100 a night?

Best of luck!

I'm down there for ComicCon, which ends the day before Bootcamp. My room is around $130/night--which I am splitting with someone, so it's not too bad.

What is ComicCon?

Good Luck, Pixy!

Are you on a panel at ComicCon, Jamie?

Posted by mommiller (Member # 3285) on :

I really want to go to this one, in more ways than one...it could almost be feasable.

Does this hotel charge for parking by the way?

I've applied!

Now just have to wait to see if I got in...

(Are you on a panel at ComicCon, Jamie?)

No, but OSC is. Along with a ton of great speakers like Neil Gaiman, Stan Lee, Kevin Smith, and some guy named Ray Bradbury.

Best of luck to everyone with their Bootcamp submissions!

Wow. I'm duly envious. I didn't see OSC's name on the list, but I saw a plethora of greats in art annd writing fields. (Suddenly OSC's reasoning for having Bootcamp in San Diego becomes clear. )

Thanks, Pixy. You too! Unfortunately, I won't be able to go to ComicCon. That would be a really long time off of work. But if I get to spend a week learning from OSC...

Oh! I so wanted to go to ComiCon this year. I got to go to WorldCon when it was in LA two years ago. That was amazing.

Thanks, IB!

Good luck, Jamie!!! That sounds just awesome!

As the days pass my nails are getting shorter.

Posted by EP Kaplan (Member # 5688) on :

Yeah, seriously. This waiting is a nightmare.

Posted by brainie (Member # 7810) on :

Only a few more days...

Which is good because all my writing utensils have been chewed at the top thus far.

Posted by pixydust (Member # 2311) on :

Eeck...two more days...why did you have to remind me.

Posted by brainie (Member # 7810) on :

Anxiety loves company?

Now one day. Ulcers, anyone?

Posted by mitchellworks (Member # 6779) on :

oh, fine. I have to chime in. I'm waiting too, and have no nails left.

My husband said to say I got in just to set you all over the edge.

It's 00:30 here in NJ. The day has come. *checks inbox every 5 minutes*

Posted by brainie (Member # 7810) on :

I'm checking my email constantly too, even though I know America won't be awake for hours.

Sad.

I can't believe it! I got in!

*squeal*

That's great!

I'll see you there, pixi...

Good work! Here's hoping we hear the same from EP Kaplan and brainie. Two down, two to go?

"Thank you for your application to Uncle Orson’s Writing Class and Literary Boot Camp. Unfortunately, your application was not accepted for Boot Camp.

Mr. Card asked me to make it clear, however, that not being accepted did not mean that your writing was judged “not good.” His decision was based solely on whether he felt that the writer could gain from and contribute to the type of workshop he runs. There were, as always, talented writers who were not accepted this year.

Per your instructions, we will apply your deposit to Uncle Orson’s Writing Class.

See you in July."

Well, I'll see you guys for day one and two. Congrats to those who made it in. Look for the guy with long hair treating OSC like a prophet. I think I'll apply again next year, eschewing enrollment if not accepted to Boot Camp. I'm praying that I was rejected, as OSC has long said, for being "too good". Yes, I think I'll believe that.

Oh, I'm sorry, EP! But I'm sure it's because of the greatness aspect. So glad you're still going to make the first two days!

And Mitchell, congrats!!!

Can't wait to meet you guys!

Posted by brainie (Member # 7810) on :

Well, I'll be there for the first two days...

And may I say that was probably the nicest rejection letter we'll ever get.

Posted by EP Kaplan (Member # 5688) on :

Looking forward to meeting some fellow hatrackers, too. Would anyone object to sharing the first page they sent in with their application?

Lucky folks...England to America plus camp and hotel fees equals mega bucks.

Posted by mommiller (Member # 3285) on :

Make sure you all get to travel on over to Old Town and have some fish tacos.

Posted by mitchellworks (Member # 6779) on :

Fish tacos, I'm there.

I'm happy to share my page if you want. I'm not particularly talented, so it probably is that he could see I had much to learn (grasshopper).

Congrats to Mitchell and Pixi!

Remember when OSC rejected autumnmuse's application because he felt she had advanced beyond anything he could teach her?

I really do think he selects participants because he sees something in their work that he can teach about, and not because they are good or bad writers.

I attended the first two days when his boot camp was held in connection with Endercon in Orem, and even those two days are a gold mine by themselves.
