When I write or translate my work in English, I have most difficulty with phrases, which the English language has plenty, and when trying to come up with synonims to improve the complexity of text.

Can someone please direct me to an online dictionary or something similar?

Do you know how to search for a definition using Google search? Type "define:[word or phrase]" with no quotation marks or spaces between the colon and the word or phrase you want to define.

To search for synonyms, Google says to type the tilde sign ("~") immediately in front of your search term. The problem with this is Google then searches on the word and synonyms for the word. If you want to search for synonyms with any engine and without the extraneous pages, I suggest searching on "synonym [word or phrase]".

After a few searches, you will probably develop a preference for specific websites, like www.synonym.com, thesaurus.reference.com, or www.m-w.com (Merriam-Webster Online). Good luck.

Wow. I didn't know Google has the ability to do that. Thanks for the info.

I've been using WordWeb Pro for a couple of years now. It's a free download, runs quickly and simply, and includes both a dictionary and a synonym finder.

Hope this helps,
