So last nigth I got work started on a few poems, a thing I've thought about before but never took too seriously because the stuff I just thought up in my head didn;t sound so good. But last night I wrote down a few lines of initial inspriation for three poems I worked on one of the m a little and another one a lot so I think maybe I'm going to be a poet in addition to a literary artist and perhaps a journalist. Anyways I was curious cna I ask for help writing poems here? Is there anyone who can help me? or does anyone know of any other places to ask?

Hey Greenscreen,
I write poetry as well. I'm not an expert, but I tend to work on my poems the same way I work on my stories (and how you mentioned above). I play with the words and rhythm until they express and evoke the desired emotions. So, if you want, I'm willing to offer my two cents.

I haven't been writing for very long, but have all but abandoned (temporarily I hope..) fictional storywriting for my main passion which is poetry. I have done extensive study in forms, meter and rhyme along with figurative language, etc. If you would like any advice feel free to email me.

As I heard decades ago,

Tally Ho
And off I go
I'm a Poet
And don't know it,
Because my feet
Are Longfellows

Another quote was
"A poet who reads his work in public
have other disgusting public habits...."

::: giggle ::::

I probably do need to study more, I'm not sure if I'm very good at expressing my thoughts figuratively, though maybe in little things... In any case how might I contact one of you to show you what I've done so far, I think I need to start carrying a notebook around with me.

Also how does a poet get published?

Greenscreen, carrying a notebook with you is an excellent thing to do no matter what kind of writing you do. You never know where or when some inspiration might come along.

I would be interested to look at what you have done so far. Feel free to email me (address in my profile) if you'd like.

There are as many routes to getting published as a poet as any other kind of writer, including self publishing.

Thanks Tempest! (and of course everyone else too!)

Primarily I'm interested in making sure I retain the rights to my work. I don't want to make a fan page on Facebook for me to post my work only to lose the right to sell it later, when I could use the money, to facebook's "authority", or some other thing like that.
