Hi everyone,

Who's up for the Ready for Market (RFM) challenge for June?
I’m temporarily (?) taking over for Talespinner as chief slave-driver on the ready for market Viking boat.

This challenge is for stories that have been through a critique process from an independent third party (e.g. here in F&F) and are ready to submit to market -- after a final bit of polish in the RFM challenge. Crits are generally short, direct, though polite and constructive and helpful.

Though it might seem obvious that in order to be published, you need to submit stories to markets, the final step of submitting your story can be daunting. The RFM challenge is both a call to arms to submit your story to market and a chance to have another pair of eyes look over your story before it goes out.

Here are the rules (hopefully I've gotten it right this time):

If you have something you'd like to offer, please so indicate in this thread and I'll kick off the challenge later today or tomorrow.

Cheers,
Nick

You're doing great, Nick T, and thanks, I appreciate it.

I've not had much energy for writing lately, because of pressures of work, so I'd be grateful if you would continue. Or maybe consider rotating the leadership amongst contributors.

Cheers,
Pat

Hi Talespinner,

Not complaining, the workload is quite minimal from my end. It just feels like I'm stealing it from you.

I think I might have something ready. Needs a quick once over. But I'll give it a try.

I have a novellette (15,000 words) that's the second episode in the adventure I submitted last year. It's been thoroughly workshopped. Anyone willing to read something that length?

Hi everyone,

Just one more bump...people who want to participate in this challenge have until (around about) tomorrow to post their 1st 13s.

One reminder with the challenge is to please follow through with your critiques if you've promised the author you will review them. If you can't follow through, send the author a quick note. It's bad form to possess someone else's story and not critique it in some fashion.

Doc Brown, I wasn't going to critique this time around (overwhelmed by rejection, so I need a mental break), but if you can't find anyone by, say, the 13th of the month, let me know.

Regards,

Nick

Hi Troy,

If you wanted to add, please do it now-ish...I like to give people enough time to choose which stories they want to critique, etc. so it's probably good to close it off to new entrants soon.

Nick

Oh.
*confused*
I guess you'll have to count me out then. I don't understand how this is supposed to work. I clicked on the link. It didn't seem to contain any information. Just another link. Which led to another thread that contained another link, and then another -- each one saying "Here's how we did it in the past".

Could someone kindly post the rules?

Go to the Writing Challenges forum and click on Ready For Market June

He's right about the link though, Nick. It just links to another Open Discussion thread with another link, not to the actual challenge thread.

Hi guys,

Bugger. I'll try and fix it, I must have copied and pasted it incorrectly.

Troy, basically there's a thread in the challenge section where you're meant to post your 1st 13. People then select which stories they want to critique, etc. pretty much like a normal 1st 13. The only restrictions are the dates (end of month for the critiques) and the fact that the story is ready for market and it's been through some kind of critique process.

I like it when you say "bugger."

Hi,

Mentally I say it all the time.
