06-22-09 Did You Write?
.
It is that time of the week again. Thanks for filling in when I was out.
The purpose of this note is to prompt myself, and you, to give ourselves a weekly goal to aim for. The idea is to write at least once a week, more is preferred, and report your work here. Writing every day is the real goal but some of us have a life outside writing. In essence, it is a place to brag about your accomplishments, cry about your failures, and to otherwise tell what is going on in your life.

I must say that during the days I was on vacation, I wrote nothing. other than a few quick or cryptic E-mails, I did no writing at all. I did note down 14 story ideas, including the one I noted today. That is not saying too much. Including what I am writing tonight, I have 43 story ideas. It happens that I am 18 story ideas behind for the month. This looks like it might well be a short month, unless I work double time. Few of my older notes will get posted any time soon. new ones are more interesting.

I came up with 24 notes involving Waxy Dragon's vacation. We are still writing the stories involving the August vacation. What I did this time, that I did not do in August, was to write down the ideas we came up with so I have a record of what we came up with. One nice thing about this is that, because they are based on what we actually did and saw, I have a record of my vacation, which seamed to go so fast, yet I cannot remember much of what happened.

The vacation was excellent. I visited my writing partner and her family. It was more a working vacation as she was planting her garden, in between regular rains and our running around. There were days I worked harder than I had in my life. I did not have a day where I could lay around and do nothing. We were busy. I ate far more than I ever expected, and yet lost three pounds of weight. I think It was all the work I did. Her area is hills and there are no hills around here.
My luggage weighed 42 pounds going, and 47 pounds returning. I came up with wooden things I made, magazines, and news letters, and came back with books.

As to the question of the day,
No, I did not write (I thought about it but that does not count)

Did you write?

I did. I've gotten about half of a chapter done on what will be the first half of Dreamer's Rose, as well as adding some material to the last half. (The last half was written first, as a novella.)

I also worked on two short stories.

A flash, a new short story and a heck of a lot of noodling and critiquing for Midsommer Madness.

I'm doing the final polishing on my WOTF submission. Hope to get it off in the mail tomorrow.

Welcome back.

Yes, I did write this week.

However, I am once again faced with The Block for this novel and I am evaluating whether to continue with it or not. I probably will because right now I don't have much to replace it.

William, every time The Block challenges me on my primary novel, I push past it. I wonder if it's crazy to continue working on something my subconscious wants to abandon when I have other projects started. Or is it perseverance?

I did write, for the novel mentioned above and for a short story.

I see the "Determining a novel's viability" thread, now.

It started well...I had back-to-back good days Thursday and Friday...then things got busy, work and shopping and baking and barbecue and Father's Day...and I haven't written since.

On the other hand...sometime during a quiet period at work Monday, some elements dropped into place, and I have, oh, about half of my latest thing plotted out. At least I now know what'll happen in the next scene.

(Meanwhile, on another front...my last finished thing was rejected by the third of the Big Three magazines. A year and a half to write...two and a half months to secure three rejections.)

Yes, I did write - I'm currently digging some holes in an old story.
