Congratulations, BenM.

...on a side note, it says that vol. 27 will be published in Spring 2011. Spring?

Thanks skadder!

Joni said that they would be holding next year's ceremonies in April due in part to the heat, and also (if I remember the conversation accurately) so they'll get better coverage from Locus because it won't conflict with other events like the Hugos.

And for anyone sitting on the fence over whether to participate in Writers of the Future, let me give a little plug for our WotF critique groups over in the Writing Groups forum - an intensive writing workshop in its own right.

Now to go renew my passport...

Frickin cool!
I seem to have joined the forum like a month too late because now I have to pay to read your story.

What was the waiting like?

Axe

Thanks for the congrats guys. Steve, when Joni broke the news the first thing I asked was who the other winners were in case you'd made it, it would have been rather cool to have a pair of Hatrackers again.

And Axe, the wait was... interesting. I'm going to assume it's a little different for everyone, but after being notified of hitting finalist I dealt with it by shrugging my shoulders and reminding myself: I can't control who my competition are, or whatever subjective elements the judges may have considered - I can only control how good my entry is. So I tried to think of hitting finalist as a win in itself, forget about the remaining stage of the competition, and just get back to writing.

The wait for the first round of news was harder though, because I didn't even know if they'd received my story at all, and given it'd been four months I was getting all ready to send it to IGMS or something

I think Kathy on the Newsgroup is a little behind the times. Or did the news get released early?

And hey, online, I kinda, sort of, know two of the winners. And that last name looks familiar.
