(SCBWI = Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators)
Getting to conferences, etc is about the only thing on Brad's lists (see the other thread started by him) that I haven't been able to do at all.
This is about the only conference that might be practical for me as I could commute. It's by no means certain that I'll be able to figure out a way to afford it. But if I do, I'd like to know whether it's worthwhile or not.

I belong to the SCBWI, but I've never been to one of their conferences. So long as there's a writer's track of some sort that includes some kinds of discussions about the craft, I would say it's definitely worth it. They are definitely professionals, the quality of the quarterly publication alone indicates that.
