I thought some folks here might like this blog post by Jeffrey Small as much as I did (though, it's only part 1 of 2). On the topic of his experiences getting published for the first time, and learning writing in general, I thought he made some useful - and reassuring - observations.

Getting a novel published seems too much a pain. Perhaps it is better to focus on the writing one enjoys and leave the possibility of publication in G-d's hands.
