I know, hardly something to celebrate, but it is the first rejection I got the was not the standard drop down menu rejection.
One line was kind of an ouch at first read:
quote:Interesting and well-written story that suffers from a woefully predictable ending.
Then when I thought about it, I realized a few things:
First, they actually read it all the way through because he got to the end.
Second, this is the first short story I have ever written and submitted and it was called Interesting and well-written.
So anyway, I had to share my new writers milestone of getting a personal rejection.

Congratulations.
Now, go fix the ending and send it back out.

That is an awesome rejection. Gives you hope and specifics to fix. Have at it and congratulations.

Nice one for a first story.
You can only go up... most probably that is, since most people do.
I would consider that a nice consolation price. And would have some hope that another editor may like it enough to buy.

Predictable endings aren't all bad, only change it if you feel like it. Otherwise, send it back out! Congrats on the detailed feedback!

I did not change it. I sent it to the next market. I feel the story is as good as I could write it and it will eventually find a home.
