You know that sinking feeling you get? You've sent a query and an hour later you check your inbox and find a reply. You brace yourself. When it comes back that fast it's always a rejection.

NOT! Just got a request for the full on BLOOD WILL TELL.

An hour later huh?

Awesome!

Oh, and getting the request is awesome too.

I'll light one of my luck incense for you.

Nope. Oh well.

Meredith,

You ever consider self-pubbing a couple of your works? I thought you had like four that were done. You have people like Kayti that could speak with better authority about the wisdom in pursuing the indie route (for at least a portion of your accomplishments).

Grrrrrrrr

@Wordcaster:

Actually, yes. And other than a possible collection of short stories, BLOOD WILL TELL is my best candidate. I thought I'd give it another go through the traditional process first. I'll probably make a decision in a couple of months and target December/January timeframe, if I decide to do it.

If I do it, though, I'm going to have to get cracking on the sequels. It seems the best course to success in that venue is to have a few you can bring out in quick succession. Of course, I could try serializing it like MicMcd, too. Tracy Hickman even has a course on doing that.

Sorry for not getting through, Meredith. But the fact they were considering suggests you're on the right track. I know you will get it not before long.

So just don't give up.

Sorry for this rejection but as already suggested it would seem like someone else will want it. I don't know the numbers but one close call suggests there is something there that another editor will want. Especially when you consider that most novels were rejected multiple times, sometimes quite a few multiple times.

I know the feeling, even though I've never gotten that close, but my above statement still is true.

As someone suggested you can go the other way. There are now solid reasons to go with E-publishing-- I would even do what I can to help spread the word-- but don't let giving up be one of them, especially after only a few rejections. Your book is to good for that.

@Meredith, you might consider if you have anything close, putting it up before December/Jan, as many are predicting this year's holiday season to be the year the roof blows off the ebook industry and everyone becomes millionaires. Or something like that (don't ask me, as I'm just making coffee money on my 3 shorts + one novel, but hey - it's coffee money!)

Good luck either way, sorry this opportunity didn't pan out.

(edited to add "holiday season" which is an important spin on what I was saying...)

Sorry to hear that Meredith. But serously, you are getting close. Keep at it.

Sorry BWT didn't go through. But it's a step further than I've ever seen.

Keep up, and IMHO, Seven Stars is going to have them lining up at your door even if BWT doesn't.
