More anecdotal evidence that self-publishing can lead to success...

I found this WSJ article about Darcie Chan who self-published and sold over 400,000 copies.

Has anyone here read her book? Or any of the books in the interactive graphics?

Wow, that is quite a story. I just recently found a story similar to that one, although it wasn't 400,000 copies, I don't think. An author Mark Edward Hall, sort of in the realm of the genre that I write, which is dark, and horror, he submitted his 258,000 word manuscript to this agency and the editor got back to him with some excellent feedback about how he liked the book and that it was a really great book, but since it was so big, no one would take it. So he simply got pissed (as he said on his website) and self-published it and, surprisingly, he sold a good bit. Then, he submitted his first book proposal and got accepted on the first try, at Damnation Books. First try. That's crazy. They took the book he submitted, and he was able to send them his 258,000 novel and it got published again. Anyway, there's more information on that here: http://www.markedwardhall.com/ in case anyone is interested in knowing this success story too.

Sorry I went a bit off topic from yours, but I felt I should share a similar story about self-publishing.

Although, 400,000 copies is crazy for self-publishing, but I have not read her book.

Sometimes it can depend on how you publicize it. There's a successful E-writer who has written a book on how he made it big with not so great books. Sorry I forget the guy's name. But he's sold a ton of E-books.

If you have a great book you can do even better. [Smile]

John Locke, I assume?

Yeah, I believe that's the name.

But he's not the only one. I haven't remembered to find the other two really big E-writers who have made it big. Amanda something or another not that long ago signed a nice contract with a Traditional publisher.

USA Today just had an article about self-publishing, too. (The news media have a lot of "monkey see, monkey do," actually.) Here's a link:

I love Daniel Arenson, and he has self published most of his books.
