So my current quota is 20 rejections, 7 of them personal.

Here goes:

Dear Stefan:
Thank you for submitting "The Bones of her Brother". Unfortunately I have decided to pass. The story is beautifully written and paced, and it's clear that you know what you're doing as a writer. However, I felt like ultimately the story lacked emotional impact because the importance of the bones was not clearly established from the get-go. Mostly however, Shimmer prefers stories with high emotional stakes and this seemed more action oriented.

Please keep us in mind for future submissions.

Shimmer pretty much always gives personal rejections, usually pretty decent ones as far as such things go. I prickle a bit at their seeming implication that "action" and "high emotional stakes" are mutually exclusive.

Certainly gives me an even greater understanding of why they've rejected everything I've ever sent them...although I do have a piece I think they might like, once it comes around to that point in the rounds...

NiIIIce...

And as someone already said handy too.

I have gotten a couple of personal ones from magazines that always send out personal notes but nothing even close to that. So Good For You.

Congrats.

Personal rejections are always better than form rejections.

Good luck resubmitting.

Nice to get some indication they've actually read the damned thing...

Received a personal comment from Ideomancer the other day. Just one sentence saying they liked something but the pacing was off.

I don't recall getting a comment like that from them before but it's been a few months since I sent them anything and I forget for sure if they do it all the time.

The whole rejection seemed different like they changed it. But again I can't remember for sure.
