Did You Write? Jan. 23, 2012

It is that time of the week again to tell about what is going on in your life and what is going on with your writing, and what life is interfering with your achieving your goals.
The idea is that if you post regularly, you will be able to use the perceived public shame to force you to develop good habits.
We don't care how much you write. If it is more than you would have before you started posting, the better we like it. Just opening a project to read is sometimes enough.

What is writing is not really important. We all know new writing is writing, but so is editing, even if it is the work of others. Critiquing is a form of editing and that also counts. Poetry, blogging, articles, writing assignments, Synopsis, Query letters, technical writing, world or character development are all writing. Even E-mails and Bulletin board posts can be writing, as long as they are very wordy and pertain to writing or story. If you have to ask if it is writing, the answer will always be yes.

I have had a lot of life interfering with my writing. I accomplished very little. I did write a two page plot line for my Spirit of Vengeance two. My original version was basically the moments leading up to a big fight. No real story. I started writing a new version based on things that developed in the first story which I sent off to the publisher. I saw that it was going to need more guidance than just writing it out, so this week, I wrote out a two page plot for the story. It is not quite right but is close.
The problem with my writing, which I have always had, is that I never give my characters a chance to fail. they aim for the problem and then skirt it and come out happily ever after. In this plot line, I want to be a bit sadistic for my character so that failure on a number of fronts will be possible. I am after having the most pressing problem solved, but know that there are other problems to deal with. I don't want TO BE CONTINUED, but also have "expect more."

I am keeping up on the story ideas. I am now running late so I don't have time to do a compost pile count. I know it is over 45 but am not going to count to find out how much more.

As to the question of the day

YES, I DID WRITE

DID YOU WRITE?

Yes, I did. Mostly revisions on MAGIC'S FOOL. A very little bit on a couple of other projects.

Plus, a couple of critiques and two blog posts.

I did. I was hoping to be up to 2k a day by now, but nowhere near that so far. Still hitting my 1k a day minimum though easily enough. There's always next week...

Did a couple of crits as well.

I ended up skipping last weeks "Did Your Write?" so thought I would go ahead and post in what is fore me early. Not that it probably matters.

So in what is now two, maybe three weeks, I worked on redoing chapter two of New Mage. Maybe a tiny bit on the revision of Breaking Out. and worked on "Stone Within"-- started chapter two which is more an introductory chapter but there will be some excitement even though I'm not sure what.

I started and finished two stories. One for a challenge here. One on my own using most of the same rules as the challenge. It was the First and End line challenge and I liked some of those First lines.

I also started another line story...a dragon story.

Critted a few stories, revised a bit another one or two.

E-mails and posts here, and on Baen's Bar Universe Annex Slush forum.

Yep, a good few scenes on the latest project and a bit of work on a short.

Nah. That cold I mentioned last week laid me low. I hope to begin the final polishing of one thing shortly, but I'll have to see what comes...

I'm finally finished with my move and all the peripheral nonsense that goes with it. I've finally finished unpacking (mostly). I have Internet access and have already programmed my cable with all my favorite science, sports, and music channels...which has nothing to do with writing, I know. Most importantly, my studio is set up well enough to my liking, so I've resumed my previous frantic writing pace.

As far as new word count goes, the past week has been very, very goodly.

...and, at some point, I will catch up with the crits I owe.

I wrote about 4,000 words. I needed to write about 20,000, but couldn't get motivated. Where's NaNo when you need it.

Noting for the past few days. [Frown]

The winter blues cold cocked me so my production has halted. Hopefully I get back into the swing soon.

Yes I did. Not as much as I wanted but moved on. I have editing to do on it, and need another story written by end of week, so I best be having a better week.

I did a bunch of outlining for book two of my Mirrors trilogy, plus some thinking about the first book now that the edit is done. The outline is fighting me a bit at the moment, but I know why, so I know what I need to do. I did write a whole short story yesterday in that world with a supporting character, which I hadn't done in a while. I rather like it to, though it's in the aging drawer along with the novel, so I can't say for absolute sure right now.
