Did you write? 02-20-12

It is that time of the week to report about your life and how it effects your writing. The hope is that if you post here often about not writing, or not meeting your goals, you will be shamed into tackling something just so you can say that you accomplished something. It worked well for me many times.

As to what is writing, we all know new writing is writing. Editing, even if it is the work of others is also writing. Critiquing is a form of writing and therefore counts. Synopsis, query letters, poetry, technical writing, blogging, writing assignments, world and character creation are all writing. Bulletin board and E-mails can also be writing if they are very wordy and pertain to story or writing. If you have to ask, it is writing. Many of these also might not be considered writing. It is strictly up to you.

As for me, I did write. I did a lot of editing of stuff already written on my work in progress. I also swapped a bunch of scenes around to make the story flow better. A few passages were rewritten. I really need to work on new content, mainly pushing on towards the ending. In the end, when all was written and saved, I removed 41 words from my story.

On the story idea front, I had dug into my stack a little this week, but today I came up with four new story ideas. Six total including the weekend. This gives me a total of 45 ideas in my compost pile. A couple of the new ideas really need to be written before they sink too far into the stack.

I decided to stop on what was some rush jobs for my art show. It dawned on me there was no way they would get done in time. I changed to some in progress projects that are not as difficult. Even so, they will be a test of my productivity to get them done. I have only four weekends to get them done, and when you remove all the days that will be aimed to other projects, I really have only two or thee days total to finish them. That is going to be a challenge. Even these really don't have to be done for the show. I would just like a couple more new items to display.

As to the question of the week,

I can honestly say,

YES I DID WRITE

DID YOU WRITE?

Yepper. Finished what might end up being a novel chapter, or at least half of one. Did a bit of critting and a couple of lovely, pulsating blog posts.

Yes. I did a read-through and minor edit of BLOOD WILL TELL, which I'm likely going to e-publish soon. AND I actually made some progress on one of the short stories that have been hanging around my head for a while now. [Smile]

Plus, several crits (I'm getting to yours now, Merlion) and two blog posts.

Edited to add: Oh, and a new version of the query for SEVEN STARS.

No rush, dearest Cat Girl. I'm nothing if not patient.

Indeed. The push through my February NaNo continued, despite the brick wall I hit on Thursday and restart sequence required on Friday. I put in another almost 18k, which brings Possession up to 66.4k. I think this one's going to be longer than the last one, but then I thought the last one would be longer than it was, so take that opinion with a large grain of salt.

Starting to toss around ideas for the final book in the trilogy, The Nine, though I'm not sure if I'll be anywhere near outlining that one when Possession is finished. At least a big secret dropped into my lap/brain for that recently, one I really needed to figure out. Additionally, another idea tapped me on the shoulder and whispered one of its secrets. I need more hours for writing. [Smile]

Some blog posts were written too, of course, because those keep me moving forward on writing somehow. I think it's that they let me switch gears for a while.

Made some notes on Thursday, then cut loose on Monday thanks to a rare holiday where I wasn't sick. Wrote about two thousand words of one story, then, God help me, five hundred words of Internet Fan Fiction.

Of the latter, it's been on my mind lately and, somewhat to my relief, doesn't go anywhere beyond the five-hundred-word scene I wrote. Unless I think of something else.

Wrote about 5,000 words on my novel. Spent a lot of time revising my WotF story.

I thought sure the board had ceased to exist.
I am glad it is back. I am still writing, but not as much as I wanted. I had a good day today. I came up with two corrections in my story and that added a whole page to it. I would love to have it finished and fired out to a first reader before the end of next month, but doubt it.

Yep, I wrote.

Two maybe three short stories, Parts of two other short stories. Some on two novels and revising two first chapters.

Not to mention blogs, E-mails, crits and posts.

And This here place

My latest story using the Book end Challenge First lines. I just started my eighth story in that set... I am aiming for eleven. With a possibility of two more. Some are fantasy, some are SF, one is a short Space Opera. None are longer than 2,500 words, two will be under 1,000 and I think most are between 1,500 and 2,000.

The one I did while this forum was down was written for Lightspeed since I needed another fantasy but I may add some more emotional baggage for the MC and send it to WotF next quarter. That is Q3.

I managed about 6k last week.

Won't be doing so much this week as I've hurt my elbow and typing hurts. [Roll Eyes]

pdblake, I understand that Windows XP and 7 come with some kind of voice recognition software that you could use (if you have one of those on your computer) and you can dictate, so that you at least get some words down.

Or, you could try typing one-handed (not as fast, but doable--I do it occasionally, as needed). It's good exercise, if nothing else.

Or you could try writing long hand (pencil or pen and paper).

Anyway, hope your elbow feels better soon.
