No, I haven't got any free books on Amazon, but I am trying. Unfortunately it won't let me set the price to zero.
Has anyone managed to do a freebie for Kindle on Amazon? I notice that they do a price match. Would setting the price to nothing at Smashwords force Amazon to do the same?

I don't think we peons can set the price to zero on Amazon, unless you're in the KDP Select (exclusive) program, which allows you to set it to free for a certain number of days each period.
I have heard that Amazon will price match--eventually. You could set it to free on Smashwords--which is easy--and then email Amazon to make sure they notice.

That's the only technique I know of. Have Amazon price match. They don't get around to it as quickly as they used to.

If I put the price of my book to zero, Amazon will charge 4$ for overseas business. So you are happily invited to pay for a free book.

Yes, for ebooks.
To be honest, I didn't try to put my ebook up for free. I set the price at $4.99 and the ebook is now on sale for $8.04. That's Amazon. Smashwords kept the price I've set.

Do it from your own site, or through email. Although if you also have it up on amazon or others they might not like it. I think Goodreads has a free distribution option as well.

The thing is I'm doing this for promo reasons so want as many people to get it as possible.
