Hi,

I saw on the proofreading thread that people are using Voice Recognition software. I need to find a good mike/headset; any recommendations out there?

Best,

Robert

My recommendation is to window shop according to need and reliability. I've got six headsets, each for different purposes. One has no mic. One is USB connectivity, great for listening through software audio emulation clients. One set is monaural head piece, the rest stereo. All the mics are monaural. Several have RCA direct to sound card connectivity and fewer audio control options but more solid for quality recording fidelity. The RCA plug headsets also are compatible with my portable audio devices; the USBs are not.

One of the mics is an electrostet, bare mic. The rest have foam environmental noise reduction covers. I favor the latter for most uses. The former for its portability.

One point, durability is critical. Cheap sets tend to fail. The fine wires in the cords might not have strain protection, a thin thread embedded in the cord that prevents stretching of the fragile wires. I've also bought expensive brand-name sets that lack that effective and simple solution. I've had the best results from midrange products.
