My progress this week was okay. I spent only a little time on my novel. I've been procrastinating it. I don't know why, but yesterday I read some of the end and now I'm inspired to finish it. So this week I know I'll be able to claim the end on the story. I'm also having less writing time since my husband thinks I should spend some evenings with him too.

How has everyone else's week gone?
 

I finished chapter 6 of CtD, with a scene that was my favorite writing ever. This story has just been so much fun to write. One of my characters, Kelsie, is friggen hilarious. At least to me.

I was successful in ignoring Dragon Fate. Woo hoo.

New goal for this week. Keep on ignoring DF, and keep listening to what Kelsie wants to do.

This week: Finish Chapter four and get at least chapter five, preferably chapter six done, too.

 

I'll be doing the same with chapters 2 and 3, and hopefully finish writing chapter 4 this week.

I already finished one novel this year -- a 77,000-word crime novel. It's the first novel I ever finished. It's trash, but OSC was right: You learn more writing a novel than taking a class or reading a book on how-to-write.

Finishing that novel filled me with a tremendous energy to write. So the day after I finished, I started working on my second novel (this would've been last Friday, 3/13).

I made good progress this week. I started brainstorming an idea, realized that I had a very long novel on my hands -- if not a trilogy. Since I'm not ready to write something like that, I put it aside and started work on another idea.

It's a mock-D&D adventure story (my second practice novel). In the last four days, I was able to work out a basic story, create all my character in some detail, and today I started working on my synopsis.

My goals for next week? (1) Get synopsis up to at least 1,000 words. (2) Brainstorm ways to beef-up story line as well as embellish my plot. (3) Transform my synopsis into scenes written on 3x5 cards.

 

The novel that I just wrote is my third. My first was trash too, but for me it took a long time to learn how to write novels!
 

So BoredCrow--My dear son has spent hours learning to draw birds this winter, and today he called to me from outside and begged me to bring him his bird book, which he said was under his pillow. I think I have a budding orinthologist--or whatever you're called--on my hands. (It's too late to do spell check.) Although the scary movie we just watched may have turned him off crows for a while. It's so fun to watch kids grow up!
 

Well, my week, although at first not that great, was actually really good!

I got into the midst of the sixth chapter which is the one right before one that will undoubtably be my favorite! So I have that to look forward to. I made revisions based on what TL said which was a lot of help!

The best part though was that through talking with some rather intelligent people (one guy from Geogre Western and one guy from Harvard. And technically my philisophically curious friend too) I've realized my book doesn't have any logical fallacies plot wise and appeals to the intelligent as well as the average people. Well, technically I have some problems when dealing with God in my world but not one that impedes the story or would make it seem fake. Its the same problem people have with a God in the real world (so how am I suppossed to solve it xD?)

My Goals for this week though? 1) Crit TL's first chapter 2)Finish chapter 6 3)Start chapter 7

EDIT: Okay, well I just decided that chapter 6 was plenty long at 16 pages and so I'm going to make the rest of it into another chapter. Sooo...technically I think I reached my first goal for the first time xD Now onto the next two!

It's LDS Chic Lit, along the lines of Rachel Ann Nunez because I like to write stories about love, so I decided to go with that for a while.

Yep, throwing away that pesky magic thing, and I'm just focusing on characters and a love story in a world I actually lived in, so I don't have to worry about that pesky world building stuff either.

So because of it's lovie dovie nature, along with being a LDS faith promoting story, I know not everybody will be interested.
If you are interested, gimme a holler.

I started world building for a different fantasy idea I had, planned to make it a short, when I realized that it totally fit into the backstory of dragon fate.

In fact combined with my previous decisions for the unmentioned backstory, this idea is pretty awesome. Awesome in the kind of hey thats a fun idea, let's explore that for a while, and then the next thing you know you have to write the prequel to this story, but because stories always change even when you don't want them to...
Let's just say, I think I have a series on my hands.
Ah, man.
One of these days this story will make sense, but then it will be an epic, and people will expect me to be able to duplicate it, and it will take years. Years of my life.

Just that kind of an idea.

So IB, when you get back from St. John or wherever you are, and you don't see the short trigger challenge from me, you'll know why.
