Spider-man was my absolute utmost favorite super hero in my teen years. So when I found "Spider-man; The Darkest Hours" by Jim Butcher, I thought, "ALL RIIIIGHT!!!" Don't get me wrong. I'm enjoying the story. The only problem is I have to keep reminding myself that Peter Parker is telling the story instead of Harry Dresden. In some respects I just can't picture Pete talking like Harry. Harry likes to wise crack and has his own style of telling a story. Pete grew up as a science nerd raised by his aunt and uncle... a very clean cut kid. To me the two are nothing alike when it comes to personality and backgrounds, and it puts a real damper one what is actually a very good story.
I can understand that. Some writing style I would assume with perhaps of the same ways of thinking. I haven't read his Spiderman so I can't comment on it but Butcher has been doing some short stories in anthologies by P. N. Elrod and the Butcher story in the last one I read was First Person from the POV of a different Character.
At first I thought it might be Harry faking it but finally the POV character says " I am not Harry".
And since most UF is First, I think there have been a couple of times where I have picked up one book and it took me a few lines to realize it wasn't the character I thought it was. For a few lines it sounded like the one I was thinking of but that person is from a completely other book.
