I think some time ago there was a discussion on how far a man on foot or a horse could travel in one day. I searched but couldn't find it. Does anyone know when this discussion happened or did I just imagine it?

I found it! MaryRobinette links to a great article:

quote:
It takes me twenty minutes to walk a half mile over variable terrain.

Someone here posted this link to The Care and Feeding of a Mortal Mount which you might find useful.

Thank you so much. You have a sharper eye than I do.

My apologies, Kickle, but I JUST today discovered this query about the travel times of horses. I was the one who posted the initial question, mainly because I was having an argument with my co-author about how fast was too fast.

I have created a webpage with writer links on it. If you go down to the "Research" section, you will find several links to horse speed. I found my answers mostly on equestrian sites. I'd be happy to email you the compilation of information I collected if you still need it. Just send an email to buce 'at' charter.net. Be sure to put "Hatrack" in the subject header.
