For some of us (me) the bad economy has hit their professional lives. Now I have much more time than I would like.

Some of that time goes into writing (one of the reasons I am here) and some of that time goes into another project. I wish it were otherwise because writing and my other project are, at least at this point in time, non-profit enterprises.

Unable (so far) to fill my time with remunerative activity, the key is to focus on working on projects that will lead to some result rather than dawdle at home, wasting this gift(?) of time.

Well, the first time I got fired from my postal job (three months off, reinstated with back pay), I was too nervous to take advantage of my free time. I don't think I did any writing.

The second time (over a year, paid through about six months of it, reinstated with no back pay but collected unemployment the rest of the time), I buckled down and concentrated on finishing the final draft of a novel I'd worked on for five years previously. (My last completed novel.) With four months to go (but I didn't know that), I worked on this and that, and stumbled on Internet Fan Fiction and started writing my first just as I went back to work.

When the next time comes (and if you ever worked there, you'd want and expect it to come, too), I do hope to take the time and work on this and that...I've got another unfinished novel that started occupying my mind again.
