I had my cat Lotus Blossom put to sleep this morning. It just wasn't fair to try to keep her any longer. She had another attack Tuesday. Whatever it was, obsessively circling for 24 hours. I had to put her in her carrier (something she hated) just to get her to rest and keep her from getting herself hurt. At one point, she had circled her way under the recliner--while I had the foot up. If I hadn't figured out she was there before I put the foot down--. After the attack (I'm thinking it was a stroke, but I don't know), she appeared to be blind. She kept getting stuck in corners and calling for me to get her out. She had refused to eat anything since Tuesday morning and had only had the water that I could force through her clenched teeth.
Libby was never what I would call a sweet cat. She was opinionated. But at the end, all she wanted was to be held. She purred when the vet gave her the injection. Sleep sound, Libby. Wait with your uncles and brothers at the Rainbow Bridge.

How old was she?
Sorry to hear about that, at least you were with her at the end.

Only ten and a half. Considering she was born feral, not too bad. Longer than her brothers. But not long enough.

Oh I feel for you. It can so heart breaking when such a loved member of the family passes away, no matter what the circumstances may be.

May he rest in peace.

I'm sorry Meredith. I'm not really a pet person but I applaud you for doing the kind and sensible thing.

I'm so sorry! [[[[[[[[[[hugs to you and yours]]]]]]]]]]]

As a lifelong pet owner and current owner to three dogs and one cat, I empathize. It's obvious from your post that your kitty lived the good life with you.

Take care.

. . .

(In other words a moment of silence)

Having had to put cats and dogs down before, my heart goes out to you.

A pet that has lived with you for ten years is a long, long time and it's a loss regardless of what kind of shape they are in.

We still haven't replaced our dog that died five years ago.
