Maurice Sendak, author/illustrator of *Where the Wild Things Are* and other classic books, passed away at home this morning after a brief illness.

As wonderful as he is as an illustrator, he also deserves to be remembered as a writer of great imagination and fine prose. Even though it was picture-book prose, it demonstrated Henry Ford's dictum: "The most beautiful things in the world are those from which all excess weight has been removed."

In my local paper in the place of the usual political cartoon there was one that showed the beach of an island with a small boat named Sendak and a wild thing was weeping.

No way...

I know he was old, but...

*sigh*

Rest in peace, Mr. Sendak.

Thanks Mr. Sendak, we've had a lot of laughs over your wild book.
