Just for the heck of it, I did an online search for my real name, Ginger Karns. What a thrill to find I'm a one-of-a-kind... at least here in the United States.
Then I did a search for my user name that I made up as a teenage off the top of my head, Crystal Stevens. There's over 200 of them including one celebrity I've never heard of. This woman was involved with Playboy, listed as a stripper/porn star, served time in jail, and was killed (I think) in an auto accident.
Can I pick a name or what? Now I'm not sure what to feel. After all, this Crystal Stevens isn't me. And there are 200+ others out there. But I almost feel like burying Crystal and not touching her again. I know it probably won't make any difference to you folks, but criminy! What a shock!

My name came up with over 16 million results. Other people with my name are: an IT professional, pharmacist, abstract artist, nurse, wedding planner, accountant, translator, and event manager,and a track and field star. Who knew? Much more boring than your user name! It probably would be a good idea for you to come up with something more unique.

I suppose I have an advantage, in a sense. I could be a real troll on every board in the world, registered under my real name, and nobody could ever locate me. Not through my name anyway.

I am blessed with a name that's nearly unique---all but a few references online are to me. (It was somewhat less of a blessing when I was a child, but that's another story.)
Also, I never felt the need to manufacture an online handle---my name is my name, and such are the demands of my raging ego that I need every bit of ego-boost I can get. So my name's on everything from impolite comments to Internet Fan Fiction...

I think I said it before somewhere else on the boards---always a problem when you use up all your "A" material---but it fits in here again.
I gather a lot of the newer rock bands these days now have odd and misspelled names, not for any desire to emulate their predecessors and influences, but so they stand out from the crowd on a Google search.

There are only two people with the name P.D.Blake according to google. I'm one, the other is a movie director.
I just wonder if a certain movie director is sat there wondering just who the hell is sitting on that dotcom domain name he really, really wants:)

I finally regoogled my pen name. It was the third time I've looked for it.
Boy the number of hits jumped to 560,000. Most were me and the calendar guy I knew about but there's a new Le Doggett who might be into fitness. And listing for various of my blog posts. and people with other first names.
And a surprised I'm listed at "Memory Beta, non-canon Star Trek Wiki" They don't say much I wonder if I can add something, have to go back and check on that.
I didn't look more than five or six pages but so far nothing about the guy who is the political blogger. I've wondered if he is the calendar guy or someone else.
But thought about using a new pen name. D. Bob Prescott. A take on one of the favorite characters.

Well, the ones I remember, one involved a land sale in the eighteenth century in England, I think---so it's not me unless I find a way to time travel back and make the purchase.
Another one involved a newspaper article---a writeup on Stephen King, of all things---that, when I looked at the scan of the article, looked like an error in the computerized reading of it. (It's just one article, and the guy seems to be a regular reporter, so if it were spelled my way there should be a lot more, right?)
There are a few other things that might be ancient typos or modern scanning mistakes---rolls of Civil War units or other records. (There's a "Robert M. Nowall" in the recently released 1940 Census records---I just learned of it and know no more, other than that he was five and lived with his parents in Erie, Pennsylvania. Likely a relative.)
Of course, if I'm not careful, I get a lot of "no wall" or "now all" things coming up in a Google search. I enclose my name in quotation marks---but, of late, after a couple of pages, the quotation marks get lost.
