Just thought I'd add that I can't help but wonder how they're going to stretch "The Hobbit" into a trilogy. It was only one book and not what I'd call exceptionally long.

I read the story...then read another telling of animal activists targeting both The Hobbit and The Life of Pi for their use (and possible misuse) of animals.
I'd post a link, but the matter might be construed as political in nature.

Footnote to the above: animal-activist-targeting wouldn't excuse deliberate mistreatment of animals.
(My mother caught part of The Lord of the Rings movies---the battle with the Wargs. She asked if any were hurt in the filming. I told her if she could tell me where they could be found on Earth I'd tell her if any were hurt.)

Dude, something like that is going on you don't quit and send a letter, you barge into someone's office and talk to (or yell at depending on the circumstances) them until the animals are moved to a better location or you get fired.
