Tilla is fifteen years old girl. She is very gifted at hacking and speaks machine language as if it were her native tongue. She lives in the future in a new city in some unnamed place in the world (I think I like to keep the country anonymous). She is part of an underground criminal group that steals data and sells it to clients. She has been in this group for about three years. Tilla will now take questions and I shall hand the keyboard over to her .

Fifteen years old? Must have started into computer languages really young (my brother was heavily into programming at about sixteen, so I know there are people out there like that).

How'd you get started, and what made you turn to a life of crime?

I used to play the piano and get straight A's at school but after my mother died I didn't care about it anymore. That's when I started spending my time on the computer while staying with my grandmother. Its not that hard to learn how to program and hack if you know where to look. It's challenging and fun to do. It's the only thing I enjoy doing. I don't care about school or friends.

Then when I was 12, a man named Jared came to my door and offered me an underground job. I was doing small jobs for clients at school, programing key gens and selling accounts, stuff like that. He must have heard of me even though I told my clients to keep their mouth shut. I wasn't that interested at first but then my grandmother died and I sure as hell ain't staying in a foster home.

Does this Jared have any plans for the future beyond stealing secrets and selling them? Does he consider himself a revolutionary, or simply a pragmatist trying to survive in a harsh world?

And what made him pick you of all people, and arrive at your door right as your sole guardian conveniently dies, giving you no choice but to accept his offer?

Am I wildly wrong?

Jared is cool. He's the only one I really trust these days. My grandmother died of cancer, which she refused to tell me about until her deathbed. I really don't know what Jared plans for the future. He doesn't talk much. He himself was reluctant to recruit me. When I answered the door he said I was too young and walked away. That really annoyed me, I had to go chase him down. It was Cid who really found out where I live. Cid is the head of our little operation, he has ears in many places. I don't see myself anywhere else now.

Tilla.

Is your name short for anything? Is it your Online persona, or your given name?

Does stealing give you a feeling of power?

Do you get a sense of family, of belonging, in your operation?

Are you the only girl in your jeesh? Do the boys treat you as an equal, as a trophey, as lesser?

You say you trust Jared, but Cid the head of your group, you don't trust. Why do you trust Jared, and not Cid? What has he done to evade your trust?

Does he use your skill more than the others?

What can you do to use him? Or are you content to sit and be used?

Tilla is my full and real name. I was adopted to tell you the truth so I don't know about it's origin. I sorta knew all along because I was old enough to realize I had a new home. As for stealing, no it doesn't really give me a feeling of power. I do get a sense of satisfaction from it though, like when you finish a role in the theater and you know you nailed all your lines. It's the satisfaction of performance and overcoming the challenge. On the other hand, if some guy is being an ass on the internet because he can hide behind his monitor, he can think again.

Yes I'm the only girl in my uh...jeesh. I tend to mind my own business and the others leave me alone unless they need to tell me something. Mostly it's just a business relationship with Cid and the rest of the crew. Family is sort of a touchy subject, but I do feel kinda close to them I guess...even if we don't talk much. Cid is a real smart guy, it's not that I don't like him or anything, he just tends to treat me like a kid. Jared treats me with equality, like I'm another adult. I can't tell you how many times Jared has come in to save my ass. Sometimes when you're in a tight corner, your brains aren't enough. Jared is a very intimidating guy...if you get on his bad side. But I think of him as a friend. I've been staying with him in his apartment for about three years so I feel comfortable with him.

I don't like the way you say I'm being used. If I wanted to I could walk away. It would just be too bothersome to go out on my own. Cid takes care of all the targets and the clients and the information and all that. Even if I don't like him much, the jobs would be pretty dry in his absence.
