Hi, I'm just starting out on my first serious writing attempt. I'm having some trouble figuring out how the story will end, and I think it might help for me to get to know my character better. So here goes:
My name is Eva. For the past ten years, I have lived in a convent, harbored by a group of kind nuns. Now I've decided it is time for me to leave the safety of St. Joseph's. I fled to the convent out of fear of men, evil men. I was afraid to fall prey to them and what they might do to me. Now I'm tired of living in fear. I'm lonely. The sisters are kind, but I long for a normal life with a family of my own. I understand if you might have questions. Ask them. Perhaps they will help us both.

How old were you when you fled to the convent? How old are you now?
Would a nunnery be named after St. Joseph?

Eva: I was 14 when I arrived. Now I am 24.
Mayflower: Yes, I chose that name because I stayed at a convent called St. Joseph's in Indonesia for two months. I thought it was strange, too, that they would name it after Joseph. However, if you think it might distract people from the story, I can change it.

Second obvious question would be who are these men and is there any reason they would be after you?
Do you have family, friends ? Or are you just heading out with to a world of strangers?

I don't know who they are. I just know they're out there. I don't know what their reasons are. All I know is that my sister was hurt by one of them and I narrowly escaped being hurt by a group of them.
I have family, I just need to find them. Before coming to the convent, I lived with my parents, sister and brother.

But does that mean you were captured and then escaped? And does your family know you are still alive?

No, what happened was that my sister was violated by a strange man. Then one day after that, I saw a group of men outside a tavern studying me, leering at me. They had a greedy look in their eyes. I froze for a second, then I took off running for home. I left for the convent the next day.
Yes, my family knows I am alive. We write letters, even though it takes a long time for the letters to arrive. You see, I usually have to wait until an outsider comes to the convent, such as a traveling merchant or the man who does repair work for the sisters, then if the outsider is going in the direction of my hometown, I can give him whatever letters I have for my family. Then I just have to trust that they get there.
