My name is Danica Amling--at least that's the tiny print under my head-shot. I am recent proud graduate of the Smithson Conservatory of Musical Illusion, what this really means is that I am unemployed living with my best friend, Leo a Muso-Magical Theorist in our run down apartment searching for gigs. And before you ask, no I will not create an illusion of your dead dog Rufus by singing Mary Had A Little Lamb. (You'd be surprised by how often I get this request.) I like my magic and music like I like my booze: simple with a twist, my specialties are nineteenth century color-music and fractured fairy-tale folk-songs.

However,
I do do birthday parties.

Jesus, I have got to move to the city.

Fire away.

My dog's name was Spike, and I was hoping you'd make an illusion of him by singing "Born to be Wild", but I'm guessing that's out of the question, too? Do you just need a different song? Trying to find your muse?

What CAN you do anyway, if you don't mind my asking. You sound like a typical starving artist to me. (My uncle's looking over my shoulder now muttering "Damn hippies!") Is there anything you do other than make pretty pictures to music? I've got MTV for that.

Wait . . . no never mind, there's only trashy reality shows and dumb commercials on MTV now . . . but you get my point.

I'm not a TV.

I'm better.

Full sensory schlabang, scents, taste, the whole deal. I bet you've seen those illusionists at bars or at concerts, you know popgicians. For them it is just like pretty pictures, one dimensional, and they can be great pictures sure, but that's all they are.

I can't summon your dog Spike. The truth is I can only summon things I understand from my own experience and imagination As I've never met your dog Spike if I tried it would just be a generic dog or worse a very specific dog that is not Spike at all.

Well Danica, do you create illusions in my head or in front of my eyes? And, I guess I'll ask the obvious, is it really an illusion?

Another two questions that spring to mind, Who would hire you, and why?

Phil.

Also, Danica, what did you hope to accomplish when you decided to study Musical Illusion?
