I guess some of us perform at our optimum at different hours, as I can't write well at 1 in the afternoon. I hope my post didn't imply critism. I was merely curious. I'd say it was interesting that I don't remember Mama Iris, per se, but it could easily have been during one of the lulls in my presence on the boards. My interest in Haitian and South American "religions" is only recent. I'm particularly intrigued with the way voodoo and cambode (sp?) are so similar, yet have very different beginnings. Also the way they use Catholic icons to represent their gods or goddesses, or even in some cases Hollywood actors and actresses (e.g. a village a friend of mine visited in Haiti represented the goddess of fertility and autumn by an old picture of Audrey Hepburn). |

I was Mama Iris here in the old old days when Hatrack River was a forum on AOL. Merlin Wheeler ran the general store and one Horace Guester held an online 'social' once a week. I was only on for a month or two and you won't find me in the forum archives because I think all those archives from the AOL days are long gone. -Sylvia |

I remember Wheeler, and of course Uncle Orson's Horace Guester. Louvelour is actually from those days, though I fell out of touch with the community after a few months and didn't return until the Fickle Lion which can now be viewed under the archives on the main forum screen. Vilate Franker and John Binder were fans of Louvelour, though I got the distinct impression that Horace didn't care for his carefree attitude very much. I've always wished we could have more real-time IC chats now, but, alas, RL seems to interfere at every attempt. Anyway, welcome back. It's good to see the old-timers writing here again... and my ultimate wish to see Horace Guester resume his old role at the boarding house. <sigh> -C |

Of course there's still the Tuesday night, 9:30 PM EDT, now Buddy Chat, Hatrack. Now whether you've got AOL or AIM, you can join in the chat. Not available to users of the Java Quickbuddy (sorry Wendy). If you can't figure it out, and I'm online... IM me at CaryBass, if you see me on...otherwise... We'll try to find you. |

I get it now! That would mean it's 8:30 here, not 10:30... I always get that mixed up! Actually, until the season is over and my league lets out for summer break I probably won't be able to get home until after 9:30 here, so y'all still have plenty of time before I crash the party. For the other quasi-French speaking residents of Hatrack, I recently got a hold of a cd by Marie-Denise Pelletier. I particularly liked Au bord du lac (although I catch only about half of what she's saying) and I downloaded Parti via Vancouver (of which I understand even less than Au bord du lac. She keeps asking if I understand something, but that's about all I understand.) Anyway, the title of the cd is Plaisir D'Amour and it runs around $18, and I highly recommend it. Curse those import prices. I can't buy as many if they keep charging more for 'em. On a similar note (import discs), Natalie Imbruglia's new cd, White Lilies Island, is very well done. It should be released in the states sometime this spring. If you have P2P music swapping software check 'em out before you pay the hefty import fees. Finally, a real use for Napster! As Always, |

Hello all! I apologize for just dropping the ball a few weeks ago. I am literally drowning in school work but I plan to try to post some next week. This is my last semester of school so I'm kicking my butt trying to make sure all is in order so I can graduate in May. I have not forgotten you at all,I'm just busy to the extreme. Still if you wish to talk to me or spar with me or just irritate me, come to Tuesday night chat at 9:30 and I'll be more than happy to goof off with you. See you all soon. With love and elfblessings, |

Beaucoup de merci, Cary. So it was a German that invented the yeast cake... should have known. Either of y'all, Lize or Cary, feel free to push the thread forward if'n you get impatient. I'm going to be late to work writing this small OOC, as it is. I just don't have the time to write anything substantial until my weekend starts. -C ps Hey, elfqueen! Take your time, and make sure you graduate. I'm sure I speak for only me, myself, and I, but I've enjoyed the small reprieve from all the love-bird, smoochie, can't-keep-their-hands-off-each-other posts. You know, I love you, but I need that sort of stuff in doses... Miss you in town, anyway. Hurry up and finish school! [This message has been edited by Lynch (edited February 08, 2002).] |

It seems I do this too often, but once again apologies for my absence recently. I'm taking technical classes so that I can get the promotion that's been all but handed to me on a silver platter. Unfortunately, the classes are during the weekend when I usually post. The majority of them are out of the way, so I should get a day or two off in the next week or so. Specifically Wendy and Kat, don't let my lack of time halt the storylines in the Woods/Cafe respectively. Wendy, do what you must to Mister Planter, just so long as you don't make a widow of Missus Planter. Kat, Susan is seven years old, and lives at the Baker's Home for Orphans. If I'm given any time off over the next week I'll try to get a post or two done, but no promises that the much needed time will come. As Always, |

Thought I'd give a head's up, in case anyway cared. I'm going to be absent more for awhile. I've finally started the novel I've been talking about. I think I mentioned it to a couple of you, but can't remember for sure. It isn't all worked out in my head, yet, exactly what goes where, who, and what they killed the poor man with, though I'm sure the butler did it. It's always the butler. Not sure where that came from, but that's the price I pay for spending so much time trying to make the little pixels on my computer screen organized enough to string together words that are coherent enough to understand. If you're even the tiniest bit interested, catch me on AIM sometime and I'll be glad to discuss it. I'd mention some details here, but I'm not sure how far "first publication rights" extend. I'd love to get a few of you to proof for me as I go. It'd not only provide useful feedback, but might even keep me motivated past the 100th page for once if I have people demanding the next chapter. (Even if they aren't really going to read it, the encouragment is always welcome.) As I won't be able to spend alot of time here, I've broke my "never, ever, ever will someone else write for my characters" vow. The irresistibly delicious, elegantly dazzling Ondine of mine dreams (before the part where she kills her love and returns to the sea) will write occasionally for Bucktrot (due to insistent begging, and the mother of all threats to any man in a monogamous relationship). I'm planning on trying to get a post for Prentice Birley written myself every once in a while during lulls in my novel. If there's anything in particular you'd like to see with any of my infinite number of characters send me an email. I should be able to check that semi-regularly, though I'm limiting the time I spend on my internet enhanced PC. looking forward to talking to y'all soon, [EDIT: forgot irresistibly delicious, and fixed some spelling/grammar due to the length of time in consciousness] [This message has been edited by Lynch (edited April 02, 2002).] |

Thanks for the kind words Maria. Actually, if you think my writing is superfluous, wait until Heidi starts writing for my poor little orphan. I'm sending her to a university in Boston just to give her the vacation I'm sure she's going to need. -C (Heidi, when you read this, know that's all in love.) |
|
Bucktrot Mary Simmons New Member |
Superfluous? I didn't see anything in Maria's post that said anything about you being superfluous. She just noted that you finally ran out of stuff to say, and before you say anything about that, I know for a fact it wasn't ME keeping your mouth/hands busy, so you'd better keep quiet if they were otherwise entertained. Besides, I don't write anything that doesn't need writing. I'm more of a writer than an editor, so unlike certain people (ie Chris) I don't rewrite a paragraph three times before moving on to the next sentence. Then again, I'm not much of a writer either, so when you compare me to Anne Rice I take it as a compliment. After all, the ratio of Anne Rice books published to C F Lynch books published isn't even measurable. As we all know, you can't divide by 0. -Heidi B |

Chris and I wrote the short story I just posted in the Smithy through email while he was at work tonight. He told me to go ahead and post them, but I didn't mention that the story currently taking place in the same topic(?) didn't agree with time of day or current location of certain characters, specifically Jim Smith & Co. I didn't mean to step on any toes. This time. If I've made a faux pas by posting the story, let me know, and I'll try to figure out how to fix it. Heidi B and her Prentice (though C is here in spirit only). |

Hatrack time is infamous for its flexibility. It might as well be made of elastic bands. It can stretch and bend over, around, under and through any other story in the same topic! |

Black Shep Baker, where are you? ![]() Anyway . . . might be a little interesting if a couple cranky guests start demanding their dinner, if any one's lazy, and needs something to do, and also if the Master of the Kitchen who is, apparently, invisible and unavailable at the moment, doesn't mind. That was a run-on sentence, wasn't it? Oh well. I'm too lazy to edit. |
|
Black Shep Baker Member |
Shep's in a meeting and has been in WAAYYYY too many meetings this week. I'll try to have Shep show up in the kitchen today. Remember that time in Hatrack flows in a way that lets people be in multiple folders at the same time. So, just because Shep has been active in the Tavern, doesn't mean that he can't also be in the kitchen, or the Sheriff's office, or posting flyers all over town. I'll try to get back to the Inn in today. |
|
Elanor Member |
K, fine with me, as long as one Shep doesn't get warn out with all his split characters, like Ender did with Val and Peter
|
|
Black Shep Baker Member |
Feel free to have Elanor move around town and meet people. She can continue her conversation with Shep in the kitchen and also attend one of the competing parties, or get her stuff settled in the Inn. (Hatrackian time also allows for a character to be involved in multiple story lines in the same folder although it's rarely done anymore since it gets really confusing.) You should also feel free to "skip" time forward. Even though Elanor is still working on her first day, if it helps your story along, just "skip" several days or weeks and in her next response to Shep say something like, "I've been slaveing in your kitchen for 2 weeks . . . NOW WHEN DO I GET PAID?" |

Greetings all, Wow! How time is flying by!!! I cannot believe that it is already June. Amazing how you can look down for just a moment and before you know it almost 6 months have passed. I apologize for my lack of posting but I have been watching from a distance so to speak. But you are such a great group of people there is hardly a need to do any kind of governing at all. Thank goodness for that. This year has been a year of change for me in many ways and on many levels. My personal life has been keeping me out of Hatrack and I think it was a much needed break for me. I do want to get back on the board soon and do something but I'm not sure what direction I want to go at this point. I've made little stabs at posting but I honestly have nothing of substance yet to write so I just have not got involved too much. But I want to do something but I don't want to get bogged down with a bunch of characters so I want to limit myself to the Baker twins and James Peacemaker. Anyhow, just wanted to touch base with everyone and let you all know I'm still alive and well and just watching from the bleachers. I'm on Yahoo as enderwiggin30 or jipul4al. I don't chat much online anymore but feel free to drop me a line. Take care. Ben |

I'm new around here, so I thought I'd mosy in and sit a spell, if it doesn't interfere too much. I'd like to find out about this place and maybe join in a bit here and there. Can anyone recommend where I most ought to start exploring? Thank you kindly. |

Hello, I come from the Battle School RPG on this site. I wondered if you wouldn't mind having me write with you people. I have twelve characters, all brothers, with the same names that they have in Battle School. I'll post their collective profile later. I don't mean to "god" with them, don't think that I'm trying to disrupt the way things are done around here. I simply like all of my characters and find it more entertaining when I can write for twelve different ones under one name. I've been writing this way in Battle School for a long time and I hope you won't mind if I write that way here. I am a competent writer. If any of your plots are in need of more people, I'm your man. |

Destiny, I would recommend reading in the tavern right now, it seems to be really hopping. Also just check out some of the other active folders and feel free to jump in. Jaydes, I think it would be great if you chose to start posting here and using one name is fine. Our Mr. Lynch has perfected that art. :-) Have a great day! Ben |

Hey All !! I'll be leaving for the beach this Saturday and won't be back untill after the fourth of July. So don't think I've checked out...I'll just be laying on a beach, soaking up the sun, riding some cool waves and checking out the life guards..WHEW !!!!! I'll be writing this week until Friday , but once I'm gone, feel free to use Scarlet and her brothers as you wish.....I'll show you all my tan lines when I come back...tee hee hee. Miss ya much, |

Greetings fellow Hatrack Writers!!! If you've read in the Inn folder you now realize that Senator Baker is dead. I will most likely quickly explore his demise once the Bakers get to New Amsterdam and that will be the end of that. I've had alot of fun writing the Bakers for the last 7 years but I've grown weary of keeping up with them and honestly it's just more characters than I can deal with at the moment. So this is their last hurrah along with the Charmings and Miss Weaver and those characters will be done and complete. Margit if you're still around I've been looking for you online to discuss what will be done with Elisha. I have an idea or two. I'm going to keep James Peacemaker around and Alec Speaker intermittently and concentrate on just a couple of characters rather than a plethora. So..here is what I need. Someone to take over the Inn which I think Black Shep is right in line for. I'm not leaving till I have everything wrapped up. I won't leave any loose strings or at least am not planning to. Writing the Bakers has been great fun but it's time to move them on. I want to explore new opportunities on the board and see where they take me. As a writer (and not a very good one) I have not been able to devote much time to the board because I believe I have simply grown tired of writing the same people. I am excited about the changes I'm making and am looking forward to doing something new. Anyhow, Jess and I are in a discussion as we speak and are planning our departure. We hope to have a ceremony for the couples getting married (a hurried one) and invite all to attend. I'll still moderate under the name Ben Baker but you are mostly a self governing group and I never worry about things. I feel like I am saying goodbye to an old friend by writing Ben Baker out of the story. But I know he will be happy in his new home despite the circumstances. It's time he got his happily ever after. :-) Hope to see you all at the wedding. Ben |

I know it's been a while since I've been about town mostly due to school issues and trying to graduate. Well, I've graduated now and the real work actually begins. I've loved being in Hatrack and loved almost everyone I've met, but the time has come when I need to focus on some real work---my play. So after the wedding the majority of my characters will depart for new horizons. Conor will remain sheriff and I'll work with Ben and others to maintain that positions and have adventures. I really don't have the energy to do more than that. Charity will make an offer to Becky as soon as possible. I'm sure it will be more than fair to her young apprentice. Ben and I have already discussed the double wedding that will take place and we hope all of you will get involved, in true Hatrack style. Perhaps later I will return and I will definately continue to attend Tuesday chat. I want to thank all of you that have been kind and receptive for the past few years. It has been really fun. Or, in the words of many stand-up comics---"You've been a great audience." You've also been great companions. Thanks. |

Isn't it terrible!! I know that I have not been on much at all. Maybe Uncle Orson is wanting us to write some scenes for him, or develop some characters. He's probably bored with us, too. |

How are we sure that he was ever enthralled with us?? . It would be cool if he wrote here too! But of course, he's a very busy man, so we can't expect anything, can we? Haha!!
