February 01, 2010 - Did You write?

A new month have arrived. A new Monday has arrived. It is time to report your writing activities. Knowing this note is coming should get you to sit down and write something, anything, of any length, on some project so you can report you have written.
This is for those of us who will go months without writing, then write a bunch of stuff for a few weeks, then go another couple months without writing. The idea is that you develop the habit of writing even a little bit each week so you can report that you accomplished something. Do this each and every week, and you end up with some visible production by the end of the year.
The amount of words that you write, is not important. What you write, is not really important. While new writing is thought of as writing, Editing, world and character creation, poetry blogging, article writing, writing assignments, are all writing. there are others that also can be writing if that is something you are willing to accept as writing. The object is to develop a habit of placing words onto "paper."

As for me, I barely wrote. On one piece, I added a total of 40 words. On another I added a hundred words. Neither production is much, but that is a hundred and forty words I won't have to write the next time I open the files to work.

I finished the month with 31 story ideas posted. That ended up as 55 pages at 33272 words. that is not too bad for about an hour, hour and a half of writing drivel.
For those couple of you who are interested, you can see my story ideas at http://www.xprodigy.net/board/index.php and Go down to Writer's Roost. While you are there, if you click on page 6, you will find the beginning of the board and you will see the Waxy Dragon stories I have posted. Spread through the rest of the board, there are some 60 Waxy stories posted.
I did a count of my compost pile and including the story idea I don't have time to post tonight (I started writing it but have run out of time to finish it) I have 41 concepts to post. The top six are still good ones to post. Will have to see about the ones lower in the pile. It is called a compost pile since the worst ideas tend to sink to the bottom.

I can say,
YES, I WROTE!!! (even if it was a pittance)

DID YOU WRITE?

Wrote a crit and went on to fix some logic gaps in Witch Hunter. Beefed it up with 1500 words or so.

Almost done with that one .

All I need is one last spurt.

Yes, but so far it's pretty much all revisions--to the query for BLOOD WILL TELL, mostly. Some revisions to the IGNORED PROPHECY and notes for revisions to DREAMER'S ROSE. I also started organizing all the various notes I had made on SEVEN STARS, so maybe I will begin to make progress on that one, soon. Oh, and revisions to "Mage Storm".

Well, it can't all be the fun part of writing new stuff, can it?

I for my part, enjoy coveting older stories.

Finished my WotF draft at 14,500 words and did some crits. I'm sort of forcing myself to take a break and not go 'fixing' until all the crits are in. But I also don't want to start something new and risk losing the tone of this piece. So supposedly this coming week will be a bit of a break.

Last month (and last week) feels like a write-off, yet it wasn't. There was new prose, some editing, and a bunch of crits done. This week and month looks to be more of the same. And even if the next story isn't finished as quickly as I'd like, I'm learning more than if I was watching TV.

Yup. Perhaps not much in words, but lots of things I have been putting off. Chapter from hell rewrites, got my crit ratio back up to 100% at critters (just for this week) and jotted some ideas down for a future novel.

Yup - finished two short stories that I've been working on for ages. Whew! Of course, they're only "finished" until the crits come back and I have to rewrite them all over again...

Yes, I wrote a couple pages for DeCo, a thousand words for a new short story, and several critiques.

Worked steady, even on Friday, which is usually my busy day...then Sunday a sore throat at the beginning of the day turned into a full-fledged-full-blown cold and that was it for the week. Missed a day of work as well. Don't see much chance of working on my writing until I shake this cold, which for me sometimes has congestion that lingers for months...

Illness has prevented me from doing much in the last two weeks. I eeked out a flash and thought... So a tiny bit of writing last week. Much more to come.

Not a lot. Finished the tweaks on "The Open Hand" and sent it out, started polishing my musical Atlantis story, working on a massive crit.
