I have a story that has a human and a demon as main characters with ghouls, goblins, gremlins, vampires etc. also getting honorable mention. But it is a humorous story.

It seems that most of the horror and dark fiction magazines only want dark. And with these characters it doesn't really fit with fantasy and sci-fi publications.

I have gotten a couple of 'It doesn't work for our publication but keep sending us stuff' responses which I take to mean that they liked it but just couldn't use it. So I feel I have a pretty good story. But where do I send it?

I am currently targeting SFWA approved publishers but I am running out of those for this story and would be open to suggestions in other markets as well.

What about humor in Fantasy or Sci-fi as well? I'm sure I'll end up with some of those eventually.

Thanks for your suggestions.

If it's short enough, check out Flash Fiction Online. It's a SFWA accredited ezine, run by Hatracker Alumni(?).

genevive42, if it's too long for Flash Fiction Online, you could try it in any publication that accepts fantasy. Just because it has horror-type critters doesn't mean it can't be fantasy.

I have tried several magazines that accept fantasy. In fact that's where my most recent, 'we like it but can't use it' rejection came from.

I currently have it out to a magazine requesting 'dark' fiction. I'm hoping that they'll get a kick out of it and think their readers will have a good laugh as well, even if it's not their usual stuff.

If that doesn't work I will shave off a couple hundred words and send it to Flash Fiction Online.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Any other ideas?

You might consider ANDROMEDA SPACEWAYS INFLIGHT MAGAZINE (a very nice Aussie pub). They publish most genres, emphasizing "fun." I've had a near-miss with them.

Big Pulp publishes most genres, publishes humor in at least some of the genres (I had one in their SF section), and have a separate humor section as well.

Neither of the above are SFWA publishers. As you've noticed, the SFWA list is quite small.

Ralan.com is a great site for finding publishers. They have a humor section. Duotrope.com is another good site for finding publishers. (Sorry...you probably already know this.)

I've had experiences similar to yours with humor in dark fantasy magazines.

Good luck.

As a joker that thinks he's funny, I found this searching for answer to your curious request

A horror anthology that must be funny that has a theme with bacon. Sounds like a challenge to me.

Sir Francis bit Shakespeare on the neck and made him write Titus Andronicus?

Andromeda Spaceways seems like a really good venue for me.

And my head is still spinning on the thoughts of a bacon horror story.

All of the suggestions are excellent. Thank you.

snapper, you're on.

Problem is, I haven't got an idea going yet. I have a lot of other stories I'm juggling and I just haven't had the time for bacon yet. I'll let you know when I have something.
