I doubt anyone remembers me, as it has been about four or five years since I was here on hatrack, but my name is Daniel Thurot and I'm back!

The last five years have been hectic and filled with lots of writing opportunities, though they haven't necessarily been of the sort that one has others give feedback on. I spent a number of busy months trying to finish up some important schoolwork before disappearing for a couple years to the lovely state of Montana, where I did a fair bit of writing, though without the aid of computers or internet (typewriters and longhand for me). Since my return, I've been busy with a number of projects dealing with comparative theology, so although I registered my new email with Kathleen over a year ago, I haven't had time to get back into writing for this forum. I'm hoping that me writing this is a sign that I'll be able to take some time to have some fulfilling discussions with the good people here on the board!

Welcome back, Daniel! I also wasn't around when you first joined.

Was the use of typewriters instead of computers a choice? That sounds interesting.

Yeah, it was a choice to work sans computers and internet. I know that sometimes when people decide to deprive themselves of something for a while it can come off as nutty, but I wanted to spend a while without distractions to just clear my head. It wasn't as though I wasn't doing anything -- it was a very busy couple of years -- but it felt nice to ignore the world in my free time and just read and write without distractions. For me it was a great experiment because I'm a complete addict to being in touch through the internet, so it was also to prove to myself that I could break with all that if I chose to. I don't know if I would recommend it to anyone else, but for me it was the right choice at that time.
