Well hello there, everyone. Pleased to be among such fine folks as yourselves, and I hope to be contributing as I can in the coming days. Name's Jez, and I have a day job that is wonderful. It isn't writing, however, so I figure I'll spend some time brushing up on the written word, and maybe someday throw a book out into the world for folks to read. (That's where you lot come in.) Little bit of background -- I read Sci-fi; I dabble in horror; I worship Stephen King; and I re-read the Wheel of Time series once a year. (This series will be growing again in October, I'm pleased to say.) Anyone read Mr. King's book, "On Writing" in the course of their studies? (My wife is now sick of the phrase, "Stephen says..." thanks to my veneration of his precepts.) IP: Logged |

I'm sure you can find Stephen King's complete work in our magical treehouse's extensive library. It's kind of like the magic fridge. You just step into it, think of the book you want, and BINGO! there it is ready for your pleasure. Saves us on space, too. No need for rows and rows of bookcases to wade through. Just give it a try sometime. Welcome to Hatrack IP: Logged |

Welcome, Jezz! I skimmed through On Writing at the library before deciding it didn't fit that moment's needs. Eventually, I'll pick up the book again. It's good that another Sci-fi fan is joining us in the treehouse. I'm sure some Hatrackers will dance at your interest in Horror, too. Fantasy gets far too much attention around here, some days. See you around! IP: Logged |

Thanks Crystal. I hope I can acquire a bookmark as easily, as I will no doubt be using this feature of the treehouse extensively, and would hate to dog-ear the pages of the miraculous books. ![]() Hiya aspirit. Yeah, On Writing was great for building my confidence as a writer. It got me to just sit down and start writing. I will admit, though, that it wasn't much of a technical resource on writing. Though it did point me to a few that I've found invaluable. LlessurNire, the author did pass away, yes. One book before the end. But he wrote the ending before he did, and had notes on the rest, so his wife (and editor) spoke to Brandon Sanderson about finishing the series. He agreed, and quickly ascertained that it couldn't be finished in a single book. So three more books will be coming out. (Jordan's story, by Sanderson's hand.) The first of the final three is coming out in late October, and I'm super excited. As a general comment, I'm really enjoying being able to discuss the craft of writing with peers. Very few people in my day to day care for such conversation. IP: Logged |

Welcome Jez, I love the Wheel of Time. I am currently about 3/4 of the way through The Dragon Reborn for the second time. We're not getting the first installment of 'A Memory of Light' until November here in Canada and I can't wait. I'm also about 60 or so pages into On Writing, coincidentally enough. Anyway, come on into the magic treehouse and make yourself comfortable. I think Crystal has your suite ready. Once your settled in I think there's a luau going on out on the back deck. Should be fun.
