I've been on Critters for a while. A couple of Critters members strongly recommended this site. They said the feedback is quicker and a bit more sophisticated. I've read their stories and hold their writing in high esteem, so I followed their advice.

I'm Old School science fiction - Asimov, Heilein, Norton. Science fiction should be about the implications of science and how people respond to it.

I'm also Old School writing - unique premise, intriquing plot, enjoyable characters, vivid scenes, strong themes.

Not into strange and convoluted stories. Not into space opera, fantasy, horror. Stories about computers and holograms don't excite me, but I do like stories involving androids.

Definitely disapprove of scenes with explicit sex, rape, miscarraige, excretions, graphic violence/gore, excessive profanity.

I believe in the abolition of style rules. The only valid style rule is that the style should not hinder the story. All else is political correctness, narrowmindedness, and dogmatism.

I enjoy discovering and improving good stories. I also enjoy advising and encouraging authors.

Harsh and negative comments about my stories don't bother me. My policy is: Cut me open and leave me bleeding, I'd rather wallow in blood than wallow in ignorance.

BTW: I'm the world's worst speller and I can't proofread my own work no matter how many times I check.

Welcome aboard!

You will see that many here also can't

a) proof read very well (I may be the worst)

b) spell (RFW II is offering lessons on how to ignore that problem)

c) follow stylelistic rules (Merlion will send you a list of which ones are important. Funny that file he sends me is blank)

So dive on in. If you don't mind getting sliced to bits this is the place for you. Bring your own first aid kit.

One of my pet peeves is self appointed style police making authoritative declarations based on sacred and immutable rules. By what superhuman ability have they read every piece of fiction ever written, by what superhuman ability do they fully explore the minds of every writer. But don't get me started. Suffice it to say: The style should not dictate the story, the story should dictate the style.

snapper's sarcasm doesn't come through clearly sometimes.
