(Baruch smiles, whivh it seems he does often) "Good afternoon, friend. Jeremiah has visitors often, well too often really, so I'm "used to people" if you know what I mean. The prophet is out at the moment I'm afraid, so it seems that you'll have to settle with me. Jeremiah and I have been friends for a long while, so I'm sure that I can answer any questions about him that you might have. I'm afraid that I must ask you to be quick however, as I must finish editing Jeremiah's letter to King Jehoiakim, a very important matter."

Your pardon, Baruch, but I didn't come to ask about Jeremiah. There are rumors that your master's activities are stirring up a lot of trouble. I want to know why you follow such a man.

Why, of course Jeremiah's stirring up a little trouble, it's what Jehovah commanded him to do. He has to make Jehoiakim see reason and fear the Lord once again. Unfortunately, Jehoiakim has fallen prey to sin, he has begun worshipping idols. I actually started assisting Jeremiah a while ago, simply because I needed food and a roof over my head, both of which are becoming more scarce every day because Jehoiakim does not care about the Holy Land, and both of which Jeremiah offered. Since then we have become close friends, and he's told me he relies on my advice often on several occasions, but I don't believe him. After all, how could a prophet, chosen by Jehovah, rely on the advice of a scribe?

If your master has the ear of the king, you must travel in some fairly high circles. Are you privy to some pretty juicy gossip, friend? If so what have you heard?

Unfortunately, Jeremiah has not yet been able to seize the ear of the King, so we are not really amongst the royalty often. As for knowing some of those in higher places, there are a few within the palace who have heard Jeremiah's words or received one of the letters he dictates to me to write, and believed him. These few speak with him from time to time, but they are too afraid of the King to speak up on Jeremiah's behalf.

As for gossip, I am not in the position to gain any "juicy" information on any of the royalty. The only one who I could gossip about would be my master, and I would not spread any rumors about the royalty or Jeremiah. Keep in mind that there are still a few of us who respect the Torah's teachings, friend.

Your religion must be pretty dull, if you don't go in for gossip. And for that matter, it must not have a lot of practicing women (did you ever hear of a housewife that didn't gossip? What would they DO all day?)

Are you one of those Hebrews, then? What follow...um...no don't tell me, I know the names of fifty different gods...Jehovah! That's it, Jehovah.
