Does anyone see the similarites between Alai in shadow of giants and paul atreides(mudaib) in the Dune series

But seriously, I don't see that much simularity, except for both having less power than would be expected from the "ruler".
But Mua'dib really was thre ruler, althoug the beurecracy and priesthood were both trying to seize power. He started out as a real ruler, and then degenrated toward a puppet ruler.
SPOILERS!!
Alai, on the other hand, started out as a puppet ruler, and in the beginning of SotG, tries to seize power and become a real ruler.

Sorry I didnt give any explanation. They are two mammals seen as prophets who both have fanatic followers that are wreaking mayhem and destruction in their name and the name of their religion . The two men are both unaware of the carnage that they would no doubt denounce if they knew of.

You say that people did not rever Alai yet they killed in the Caliph's name. I will admit that Paul knew of the carnage but in the preview of the shadow of the giants, so does Alai.

What I am saying is that they both become aware of the carnage and are not comfortable with it. WE have yet to see what Alai does.

Paul didn't become aware of the slaughter. He knew it would happen, and he caused it himself.

Whatever Papa Moose. I think I have exhausted this subject but I just want to make one more comment. Both Alai and Peter knew that it would happen for different reasons: Paul envisions events before they happen and Alai has incredible anaylitical talents that allow him to predict. I thought that it was an interesting point and I thank you for your feedback. I think that the Ender's series is a great collection and characters are only as smart as their authors

Remember its easier for a fictional character to appear genious when the auther probably paces for about 5 days straight thinking up the perfect situation.
