I started reading Call of Earth the other night, and it was just so good, I got really discouraged about a writing project I've been working on. I mean, sure getting the Oversoul repaired is a McGuffin if ever there was one, but it's just so interesting. I guess I have to pick a McGuffin for my story.

2.) If you need help with it, there's a "Writer's Workshop" here at Hatrack that you can register for, for free (it works just like here but it's a separate message board system)
3.) I also suggest you read the rest of the series. Right now I have the entire collection (all from the library, of course , but for how long you actually have it is less relevant than simply reading it)

By definition, it doesn't matter what you pick for your McGuffin.
I've had similar setbacks -- I'll go and watch a great musician, and I'll get frustrated because I cannot imagine myself ever being that good.
