I heard a rumor that when it does come out, its going straight to only online, and the Xbox Marketplace, no disc. ...but it may just be a rumor

The articles that announce this say that it will be available on "downloadable platforms..."
That includes the X-box and the PC, most notably, but it is also possible to do this on the PS3 and Wii as well. A Wii Battle Room game would be awesome.

This stinks. From the articles I have read (take into account that I may be wrong), It sounds like it will be a FPS simulation of the battle room. It won't include all the other aspcects of battle school. I am very dissapointed.

Either restrict to battle room, or, Create an immersive Battle School world that most companies would screw up horribly. I'm worried enough about what they're going to do to the battle room.

I agree, I'm worried they might screw it up; but so are the folks that have the rights to produce it. That's a good sign, anyway. They talk about it during this video interview; they discuss their relationship with OSC, and talk about the "Battle Room" video game, Empire, Advent Rising & Undertow. I've posted it at Enderverse.com (trying to collect all the news I can find there.)

I think the best way to make a workable videogame out of the book is a real time strategy game, or maybe turn based like something from Advance Wars.
It also probably shouldn't revolve around Ender directly, but rather just a generic Battle School experience. Try and put Ender in as the main character and I'm pretty sure it'll end up lacking, as you can't get the same character from a book as you can in a short download-only game.
Just my own opinions anyway.

Why not have the best of both worlds? A RPG for the social aspect and the Battle Room game as an FPS inside or as a seperate mod?

The developer's actually quite good. Of course I'm worried about the game being something that I want to play, but their track record is encouraging.
I'm worried that either the developers will go nuts and make whatever game they want without regard to the feel of the battle school, or that OSC will try to second-guess the developers on what makes a good game if they're right.

OSC made up some pretty good games in Ender's Game... and from his reports and commentaries that mention his gaming experience, I'd say that he has pretty good tastes. I wouldn't worry about OSC ruining the game too much.
Nor would I worry about the developers making Tekken with Ender's Game written on the box. The guys at Chair obviously care a lot about Ender's Game, and they want to do it right.
