I'm fascinated that our wonderful host, OSC, believes he is a Democrat, this is as bizarre to me as calling George W. Bush a centerist.
Since before the 2000 elections OSC has been bashing, and bashing, and bashing, and bashing the democrat party, and democratic party, while uplifting the republican party at every chance he can get.
He's the ONLY democrat on earth I know who calls Bush #2 a centerist.
I am neither, I am a Norse Christian Jedi, but I take issue with OSC pulling the sheep in wolves clothing trick.
He may be a Utah democrat, but he's an American Conservative Right Wing Republican if you go by the book.
His hatred for Bill Clinton is unnatural, he bashed and bashed AL GORE, and after all we've been through, WHO CAN SLAM AL GORE?
Yes, Bill Clinton is slimy, but what did Al Gore ever do?????? Nothing.
Al Gore is a saint compared to Bush #2, but OSC bashed and bashed GORE like he was Clinton, which is dishonest to all people.
OSC, I'd love it if you could find the time to explain to me how you are a democrat, and what is your cannonizing fascination with Bush #2, but I understand, maybe you're a busy man, and you me view me as a "last leveler", so I may just have to get my questions answered from your "bully pulpit" sessions.
Also, OSC, many times you BASH the American Intellectual Elite.

Thor, OSC is, as far as I know, a registered Democrat. He doesn't vote a straight party-line, like most intelligent people, and cares deeply about traditionally Republican social issues. Card actually shares Jettboy's politics, to some extent; both believe that a benevolently authoritarian dictatorship is preferable to a pandering democracy.
Card's a socialist, which is why he opposes the Republican Party's financial stance; however, he's also a committed member of the Religious Right -- and therefore feels alienated from many of the social libertarians who've fled to the Democrats since the '60s. Clinton, as a social libertarian and economic conservative, must have been Card's worst nightmare -- and I think a lot of his lingering nastiness towards Democrats in general is just a symptom of the loathing that Clinton seemed to inspire in many such people. A lot of them just aren't over it yet.

OSC is openly critical of the republicans that have been elected in NC. I recall some pretty harsh rhetoric thrown toward. . . um. . . Elizabeth Dole, I believe.

OSC is a registered democrat. There it is. he's a democrat. black and white. no two ways about it. Not opinion, not debatable. It's on paper. Sorry Thor. Grunt all you want. Facts is facts.
That being said, he can pretty much say whatever he wants to say about anybody. Anyone can. THat's how it works.
I personally have a great deal of nipple hair. I also reserve the right to make fun of any chick i hook up with who has nipple hair. Does this mean I no longer have nipple hair?
I mean really, when it's broken down into terms of nipple hair, I dont see who you can argue.

Let's face it, there's plenty to point and stammer about when it comes to BOTH political parties. Sadly, in the modern sense, there isn't that much that separates the two when it comes down to hard, concrete dogma.
On the Elizabeth Dole thing, NC has pretty much been a split state on our senatorial seats for a loooong time. Jesse Helms held the Republican side for ever and a lot of folks aren't sure why. I used to introduce myself as saying I was from NC and didn't vote for Jesse Helms. The other seat has most of the time been held by a Democrat, with the exception of the Lauch Faircloth debacle.
Dole won this time around because: a) she's so very well known and often admired; b) they threw a lot of money at this race; c) her opponent had the same type of charisma as TV's Erkel d) historically, it was going to happen. Dole, however, is a carpetbagger and her residency in NC was about as strong as Hillary Clinton's in NY. Welcome to modern politics.
If OSC is a Democrat, then more power to him. Under the big labels, there are tons of people with individual ideas and ideologies, and that's a good thing. The problem is that both parties have spent a lot of time listening to marketing experts. That's made both sets of ideologies into a pablum that just about anyone can vote for.
I've wanted to do an article that involves sending the state leadership of both parties a single question: Name five things that would determine if you were a Republican/Democrat. My guess is that there would be little difference in the responses.

If you think Bush is an extreme right wing then your ignorant of a whole world of people who evev I will admit are generally crazy.
Things Bush would do if he really were that right wing: 1. Actively work to eliminate affirmative action. 2. Actively work to outlaw abortion. 3. Pardon "anti-abortion terrorists." 4. Pardon all the corporate criminals. 5. Eliminate all environmental protections. 6. Eliminate all gun control. 7. A ton of other things that he's not close to doing.
Some may think that he's on his way to do these things but if he were really that extreme these things would already be done. In many aspects he's actually farther to the left of the average Republican.

Can't quite decide if you're serious or being really sarcastic, so I'll respond anyway.
1. Actively work to eliminate affirmative action. Bush: Affirmative action quotas unconstitutional From Bush's speech: "I strongly support diversity of all kinds, including racial diversity, in higher education, but the method used by the University of Michigan to achieve this important goal is fundamentally flawed. At their core, the Michigan policies amount to a quota system that unfairly rewards or penalizes prospective students based solely on their race. "So tomorrow my administration will file a brief with the court arguing that the University of Michigan's admissions policies, which award students a significant number of extra points based solely on their race and establishes numerical targets for incoming minority students, are unconstitutional."
In his first real policy announcement, he reinstated a ban first introduced by Ronald Reagan in 1984 which banned the US Government from giving money to international groups that lobbied for or provided abortions.
3. Pardon "anti-abortion terrorists." That only proves two things: he's not an extremist, and he's not politically suicidal.
4. Pardon all the corporate criminals. Didn't need to. Easier to pull the fangs from the SEC, appoint other corporate criminals as department and cabinet heads, and place lobbyists from corporations on the regulatory boards of the very companies they used to work for.
5. Eliminate all environmental protections. You haven't read the Healthy Forest Act, have you?
6. Eliminate all gun control. Bush is actually on record as supporting gun control, so I'll have to give you this one. He hasn't done anything to reign in Ashcroft, though, who worked to slash the length of time the government can keep records on instant background checks for gun buyers from 180 days to one (1) business day.
7. A ton of other things that he's not close to doing. Such as?
However, I don't think Bush is extreme right-wing. I do think he's so far in the pocket of conservative businessmen that he can see their lint, and that's more than enough reason for me to want him out of office.

nfl- I agree with Chris. Bush is pretty right winged. However some of those things even I, a very conservative person, wouldn't do just because they are immoral.
