I think that we decided that it didn't, since anybody could say that they'd met the Cards at a signing or whathaveyou, and there was no real way to verify such claims one way or the other (the Card's could verify it, assuming that the person stood out enough to be distinct from the thousands of other fans they'd meet in the course of a signing, but they aren't frequent enough participants in the forums for them to be relied upon to do so).

I have no idea how many Hatrackers I've met. I've been to cons on the East Coast and in Georgia, Utah, Texas, and California as well as KamaCon and EnderCon, though, so I think the numbers should be up there.

Hmm this thread made me curious, so I have made my list just for the heck of it. Definitely not 101, but not bad for someone who lives in frequin RI
Haha, lists make me sad, it's like turning Hatrackers into a check in the box. I know it's not the intention... there are many good friends included! Also, I hope I'm not forgetting anyone. That would be sadder.

I was in the process of composing a list of people I've met. I forgot that I'd done so after the last gathering I attended, back in July. So if you want to see who I've met, just go back a page or two.

Ok, I took ElJay's suggestion. Except it was hard to remember whether I had actually met a couple people, or just spoken to them so much online that I think I have! I also pulled a couple people who I have met in person, but not said much more than "hi" to. I also pulled all people-too-young-to-type-their-own-posts.
And I bet I left off several people. Some of whom are probably so blatantly obvious that I will be humiliated when they are pointed out.

It just seemed like two personalities or something, put it back. But yeah, meeting ElJay would be good.

I think that's everyone I met up in Park City. My list is pretty pitiful compartively speaking. One of these days I'm gonna go on a Hatrack tour of America .

I've never met any Hatrackers in person BUT I have done a few things to prove that I am a real person and not a ghost, 14 chimpanzees locked in a room typing, or a deadly computer virus. I've exchanged phone numbers with pH and we talk once in a while. I also participated in the Hatrack gift exchange last year and got to send something to Raia. OH, and I had a few other people on my Facebook list way back when you needed a school email address to register.
I've done all this, and still I am incredibly unrealistic.

Hey, Jeesh, don't feel bad. I'm still unreal, and I've been here way, way, way longer than you.

erosomniac is now Real. He met the Ketchup Clan (me, KPC, the Princess, and HRH) and the Meeses (Papa Moose, Mama Squirrel, Mooselet, Superstation, and Squoose) at IKEA Burbank last night for dinner and conversation. An excellent time was had by all and we can now attest to his existence.

IKEA Burbank! I used to live right there! Just by dint of being at IKEA Burbank, you become real.

And you were one of the first Hatrackers I ever met (along with Slash, Olavmah, and PerfectGentleman), so it's like one of those circle of life things. 'Sgood to see you around, dean.

You know, this thread kind of sums up my place on Hatrack. I'm around enough that I'm in the first two posts that defined the term "real," but not enough that they spelled my name right. <grin>

If you and narr are both real, then yeah. The meeting doesn't have to have taken place after the person started posting here.

I cannot emphasize enough how incredibly difficult it was to keep track of the forum names and keep them associated with the real ones, especially since Papa & Mama managed to refer to their three kids almost exclusively by forum names.
It's also really fun to watch the reaction of passers-by at a mother referring to her child as "superstation."

Mooselet does. Squoose and HRH are too young. Superstation and Ketchup Princess, probably not yet, although Ems will occasionally turn if you call out "Hey, Princess," as if she thinks she has a right to it, I don't think it's forum related.

I met two hatrackers, but I can't say their names. Of course, I have met Myself and I, also, but I don't think they count. I guess that makes me fake.

I met Uprooted! So all we have to do to get her all the way real is to have her over for dinner when Ophelia and Ben visit. Then she'll be set.

Sure Tinros, that sounds great! I've been wanting to go to an Ethiopian place in Columbus for a while; maybe we could do that one of these weekends. Or alternatively, we could meet up in Yellow Springs for some delicious food from the Sunrise Cafe. Amazingly good food--well worth trying if you haven't had it (and well worth going back for, as you probably know if you have had it).

There's one other person I met while in Seattle, but alas-- I don't remember her name.
Hmmm -- was that the Seattle Center convention? 'Cause both my son and I was there and we met you, along with Narnia, JNSB . . . I think romanylass and her delightful children left before we hit the convention . . . or am I totally lost and thinking of a different Scott altogether? At any rate, Narnia, JNSB, romany and clan, and Nathan and myself had a fine time at the Seattle Science Center and then met someone at a conference . . . *puzzled*

well, Noemon, here's the problem: I don't have a car on campus, as I'm only a freshie. However, starting Wednesday, I'll be home in Springboro for a week and a half for Spring Break. So there's a possibility of going to PF CHang's or Bravo by the Dayton Mall, if you're interested.
Sunrise Cafe in Yellow Springs? I may have been there... I'm not entirely sure though. I went to this one place with my family that had their own little store next door where I bought the msot AMAZING tea... but I'm not sure of the name of it.

Do you like Indian? Amar India (across from the Dayton Mall--not the crap Indian place behind the mall) is about the best Northern Indian place in town (it's a toss up between it and Ajanta, I think).

Yeah Shan, that was Scott. He just underestimated our numbers. And I think he was a little distracted that night. Winning some award or other. I don't remember.

I'd say traditional Indian food is mostly vegetarian. If you haven't had a lot of adventures in food from different cultures, you might want to have Noemon guide you with regard to spices (i.e., making sure you have at least one thing to eat that tastes somewhat familiar).
---
Edited to add: If you eat cheese, palak paneer might be a good choice. It has a spinach base, and even people who don't like Western-style cooked spinach often like it.
You would probably like the various forms of naan bread to be tasty. It's kind of like a puffed pita. Samosas are easy on a virgin palate, too: fried dough with a filling (usually) of potatoes and peas, sometimes chickpeas as well. Dal is a thick soup made with a bean or legume product such as lentils or chickpeas. There often are also grilled vegetable dishes (either on kabobs or on a hot iron plate, similar to a fajita filling).
Don't be afraid to try the new spices and flavors, though. Some people take to them right away, while for some it is a more gradual process to come to enjoy them. My mother was a very Midwestern cook who had a deep and abiding distrust of the "funny-tasting food" from other cultures; for us, stuffed green peppers with so-called Spanish rice was quite exotic. However, I have come to adore curries, sushi, Mongolian barbeque, dim sum, and all sorts of things which would have shocked and appalled her.
